Stay with Us
Last week we started our journey into the Emmaus Road episode.
This week we are going to finish that section and hopefully have some time for a bit of Q&A
Let’s go ahead and get going...
If you remember back, we are in the midst of the same day.
It has been a long day so far, but it is not over.
Something in the breaking of the bread opened their eyes.
But, he is not an apparition, he was able to grasp bread and break it.
The “Bible” here is the Tanak, the Hebrew Bible.
But notice this, the sense they had that something was happening, something was different.
Remember, the day is late...
So, the day is late, but they head back to Jerusalem.
This is why some think Emmaus was not seven miles away, but more like a 7 mile round trip.
As it turns out, Jesus is appearing to others too.
And it was the BREAKING of BREAD that seemed to be the revealing moment.
Now he shows up in the group!
Not the first time they thought he was a ghost.
Again, he questions their questioning.
As if this is a just a normal day in the lives of these former fisherman, tax collectors, zealots, etc.
Yeah, everyone has experienced a dead man standing in their midst, yeah, that is normal!
Bread and fish…does that ring a bell?
And notice, they are providing for him, he is not providing for them.
Now, what DO YOU THINK THEY ARE THINKING?
Given what we know about this group, WHAT ARE THEY THINKING.
Now, He will stay with us
Now is the time.
Can you imagine what the priests and scribes and leaders will say when Jesus rolls into the temple to teach!
Can you imagine how Pilate is going to respond!
All those who doubted are going to bow the knee!
Now the KINGDOM will begin...
Before, they were missing him and in disbelief that he died.
Now, they have him back, but they don’t know yet he will disappear again.
And what happens after that?
We believe he was raised, and people will know that WHEN HE RETURNS.
All of this happens around a meal.
That is so important.
