John 15:1–8 KJV 1900
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Introduction

Our Theme for 2022 is Pray first. On the first Sunday of each month I am preaching a message on Prayer. Today in our text we look at Jesus Prayer Promise in John 15:7.
What exactly is a promise? Dictionary.com defines a promise as an express assurance on which expectation is to be based.
In 2 Peter 1:4
2 Peter 1:4 KJV 1900
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Today we examine one of these exceeding great and precious promises.
John 15:7 KJV 1900
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Some of you may remember that this verse was one of the Scripture Memory Verses we studied last year. Today I would like to look a little deeper at this verse and include not just the verse, but the passage as a whole.
John Chapters 13-17 make up what is known as Jesus Farewell Discourse. Chapter 15 focuses on Jesus teaching comparing himself to a vine and His disciples as the branches. In this passage we find Jesus incredible prayer promise. Let’s look at it together.

Body

I. The Context of the Promise

8 times in Chapter 15 we find the word Fruit.
Fruit speaks to purpose
Mark 4:20 KJV 1900
And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.
Luke 19:10 KJV 1900
For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
Mark 10:45 KJV 1900
For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
James 4:3 KJV 1900
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

II. The Conditions of the Promise

If ye abide in me.
John 1:12 KJV 1900
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 9:31 KJV 1900
Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
2. …and my Word abides in you
Colossians 3:16 KJV 1900
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
Psalm 119:11 KJV 1900
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee.
John 8:31 KJV 1900
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
Matthew 4:4 KJV 1900
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

III. The Consequence of the Promise

Ye shall ask what you will, and it shall be done unto you.
1 John 5:14–15 KJV 1900
And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.
Matthew 21:22 KJV 1900
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.
Mark 11:24 KJV 1900
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Conclusion

Are you seeing God answer your prayers? or are the heaven’s brass?
Does God answer your prayers or do they seem to bounce off the ceiling?
Today we have a prayer promise, straight from the lips of Jesus. But this promise is not a blank check. It is not a Genie’s lamp that you just rub and get whatever you want.
When claiming this promise you must understand
It’s context
It’s conditions
It’s consequences
When you do you can expect the God of all Heaven to answer and move on your behalf.
