“Sermon on the Move”

Can you believe it has been 3 weeks since we spent time in our series titled “Church on the Move.”
With that said, this morning is a good morning to do a little catch up and review.
This morning I want to spend a little bit of time reinforcing the information from February, March, and the first part of April.
There are a few reasons we can come to church.
We can come to fulfill a religious obligation, to impress someone, but the real reason we should come to church is for life change.
To really experience life change we have to be in relationship with Jesus, and we have to let the Word of God be applied to our lives.
That’s why I preach series.
It is a compounding knowledge.
Most weeks I do at least a basic review of the last weeks message.
More often than not, I am preaching through blocks of Scripture that in some way builds on itself.
IT IS LITERALLY A STORY! FROM BEGINNING TO END, THE BIBLE IS A STORY OF LOVE AND REDEMPTION! IT IS A STORY OF A PERFECT CREATOR’S JOURNEY TO OFFERING PERFECT RESTORATION TO A FALLEN CREATION!
So, knowing that we are part of that fallen creation leads us to being in relationship with the perfect Creator!
But to do that we have to engage in His Word.
WE have to retain some of these instructions.
We have to be intentional about wanting more of Him, and DOING something about it.
SO, as I already stated, we are currently in a series I titled “Church on the Move.”
Unfortunately, it has been 3 weeks since we have been in this series, so I felt led to stop this morning and do a little review.
I’ve tried to get away from this, because it really isn’t typical or normal, BUT I FEEL LIKE IT’S NECCESSARY!
The idea behind this series is that the Bible gives us a clear understanding and plan of what the church must look like, what we must do, and where the power to do it comes from.
The reality is that a Church on the Move is literally fulfilling the plans and purpose of God.
It means souls saved, and lives changed.
It means the saints being in a constant state of sanctification.
It means that none of us look the same way this week that we looked last week.
To do a real review, we need to back up to last year, and see how the Holy Spirit led me to this place and preaching this series.
Early last year I started a series on the Sermon on the Mount.
We spent most of last year going through Matthew 5-7.
The purpose of that series was largely about personal formation.
The big question I wanted to answer was, what does a Follower of Jesus look like.
In that one sermon that Jesus preached, He summed up what it took me almost a year to.
It could all be summed up with, Matthew 5:20
BUT, the only way our righteousness could ever surpass the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees is if it isn’t our righteousness at all!
The entire point of the Sermon on the Mount, is that WE NEED JESUS!
The reality is that that is the point of this entire life.
The point is… Proverbs 3:5-6
That is what Jesus not only taught through the Sermon on the Mount, but it’s also what He demonstrated through the Sermon on the Move.
The miracles that He did, He did because the Father told Him and Empowered Him to do them.
So, Jesus taught (the sermon on the mount), and He demonstrated (the sermon on the move), BUT THEN HE LEFT US WITH HIS AUTHORITY TO BE HIS AMBASSADORS HERE ON THE EARTH ( THE CHURCH ON THE MOVE).
He said He would build an ASSEMBLY or an EKKLESIA…In Matthew 16 this word is translated as CHURCH!
That’s essentially where we started this Sermon Series… THE PROMISED CHURCH!
I said that the Promised Church would be founded on 6 things.
1. Revelation
2. Worship
3. Peter and The Apostles (Doctrine and the Word of God)
4. The Holy Spirit
5. Power
6. Purpose
Week 2 I preached on The Purposed or the Missional Church.
We gain our purpose, rather we understand our purpose as stated in Jesus’ last words before ascending to Heaven.
At least one of these statements (Matthew 28:18-20) is known as the Great Commission, But Matthew 28, Mark 16, John 20, Luke 24, and Acts 1 all give us our mission and how to go about it.

Everyone loved that week, because we all love to wait!... Right?
Of course not.
We live in what some have called a microwave generation, AND IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE!!!

The Bottom line is we are a generation that doesn’t like to wait, BUT if we are going to see a church on the move, we are going to have to learn to wait.
