“Sermon on the Move”
“Review 1”
Psalm 119:11
Can you believe it has been 3 weeks since we spent time in our series titled “Church on the Move.”
With that said, this morning is a good morning to do a little catch up and review. This morning I want to spend a little bit of time reinforcing the information from February, March, and the first part of April.
There are a few reasons we can come to church. We can come to fulfill a religious obligation, to impress someone, but the real reason we should come to church is for life change. To really experience life change we have to be in relationship with Jesus, and we have to let the Word of God be applied to our lives.
That’s why I preach series. It is a compounding knowledge. Most weeks I do at least a basic review of the last weeks message. More often than not, I am preaching through blocks of Scripture that in some way builds on itself.
IT IS LITERALLY A STORY! FROM BEGINNING TO END, THE BIBLE IS A STORY OF LOVE AND REDEMPTION! IT IS A STORY OF A PERFECT CREATOR’S JOURNEY TO OFFERING PERFECT RESTORATION TO A FALLEN CREATION!
So, knowing that we are part of that fallen creation leads us to being in relationship with the perfect Creator!
But to do that we have to engage in His Word. WE have to retain some of these instructions. We have to be intentional about wanting more of Him, and DOING something about it.
Psalm 119:11 ESV
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
SO, as I already stated, we are currently in a series I titled “Church on the Move.”
Unfortunately, it has been 3 weeks since we have been in this series, so I felt led to stop this morning and do a little review. I’ve tried to get away from this, because it really isn’t typical or normal, BUT I FEEL LIKE IT’S NECCESSARY!
The idea behind this series is that the Bible gives us a clear understanding and plan of what the church must look like, what we must do, and where the power to do it comes from.
The reality is that a Church on the Move is literally fulfilling the plans and purpose of God. It means souls saved, and lives changed. It means the saints being in a constant state of sanctification. It means that none of us look the same way this week that we looked last week.
To do a real review, we need to back up to last year, and see how the Holy Spirit led me to this place and preaching this series.
Early last year I started a series on the Sermon on the Mount. We spent most of last year going through Matthew 5-7. The purpose of that series was largely about personal formation. The big question I wanted to answer was, what does a Follower of Jesus look like.
In that one sermon that Jesus preached, He summed up what it took me almost a year to. It could all be summed up with, Matthew 5:20
Matthew 5:20 ESV
For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
BUT, the only way our righteousness could ever surpass the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees is if it isn’t our righteousness at all!
The entire point of the Sermon on the Mount, is that WE NEED JESUS!
The reality is that that is the point of this entire life.
The point is… Proverbs 3:5-6
Proverbs 3:5–6 ESV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
That is what Jesus not only taught through the Sermon on the Mount, but it’s also what He demonstrated through the Sermon on the Move. The miracles that He did, He did because the Father told Him and Empowered Him to do them.
John 5:19 ESV
So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
So, Jesus taught (the sermon on the mount), and He demonstrated (the sermon on the move), BUT THEN HE LEFT US WITH HIS AUTHORITY TO BE HIS AMBASSADORS HERE ON THE EARTH ( THE CHURCH ON THE MOVE).
He said He would build an ASSEMBLY or an EKKLESIA…In Matthew 16 this word is translated as CHURCH!
Matthew 16:18 ESV
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
That’s essentially where we started this Sermon Series… THE PROMISED CHURCH!
I said that the Promised Church would be founded on 6 things.
1. Revelation
2. Worship
3. Peter and The Apostles (Doctrine and the Word of God)
4. The Holy Spirit
5. Power
6. Purpose
Week 2 I preached on The Purposed or the Missional Church. We gain our purpose, rather we understand our purpose as stated in Jesus’ last words before ascending to Heaven.
At least one of these statements (Matthew 28:18-20) is known as the Great Commission, But Matthew 28, Mark 16, John 20, Luke 24, and Acts 1 all give us our mission and how to go about it.

Week 3 I preached about The Waiting Church
Everyone loved that week, because we all love to wait!... Right?
Of course not. We live in what some have called a microwave generation, AND IT JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE!!!
What started as MySpace turned to Facebook to Twitter to Instagram to SnapChat
You Tube turned to Tik Tok
The Bottom line is we are a generation that doesn’t like to wait, BUT if we are going to see a church on the move, we are going to have to learn to wait.
I. What to do when we are waiting on God.
a. Identify WHAT you are waiting on!
b. Address it in Prayer
c. Recall Past Blessings
d. Praise Him and Worship Him
e. Watch with Expectancy
f. Have faith that He hears you Micah 7:7
II. WHAT DO WE GAIN BY WAITING?
a. We prosper Psalm 37:3-11
b. We Exalt Him Psalm 46:10
c. We Are Delivered Psalm 39:7-8, 40:1-2
d. We are Saved Isaiah 25:9
e. We are Strengthened Isaiah 40:31
f. We Get Direction Proverbs 3:5-7
g. WE RECEIVE WHAT WE ARE WAITING FOR Acts 1:4-8
When we can learn to wait, trust God, and believe in His promises, we can get to the next part; we can be endued with Power from on high. We can receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
Week 4 I preached about the Holy Spirit and the Baptism in The Spirit
This was what the disciples waited 10 days for. This was AND IS the force that propels the church forward.
This is the Cummins engine that propels the Movement of the Church.
Being Baptized in the Holy Spirit is being fully immersed in GOD to a point of overflowing. It is full submission to the Creator. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit was the birth of the church, it was the growth of the church and it IS THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH! We MUST CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT!
I PROMISE YOU THIS MORNING, THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT IS FOR TODAY, AND IT IS FOR YOU!!!
WEEK 5 I PREACHED WHAT IS A MAJOR KEY TO LIFE FOR ALL OF US, AND IT IS DEFINITELY A KEY TO SEEING A CHURCH BEING SUCCESSFUL FOR THE KINGDOM OF GOD
WEEK 5 I TITLED MY MESSAGE “Repentance That Leads to Revival”
Over and over again I read stories about churches that experience revival. Over and over again I hear the stories about how people began to repent, and God began to move.
IN Acts 2:37 Peter said…
Acts 2:37 ESV
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
The results… 3000 People were saved.
That morning I stressed the results that follow Repentance. The idea is 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
2 Corinthians 12:9–10 ESV
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
His power is made perfect, So when we repent and get past ourselves, the Power of God can rest upon us!
I. When the Power of God rests on the People of God, Outsiders Will Be Drawn in by Their Curiosity.

iv. Acts 3:10 says that people were “filled with wonder” when the lame man was dancing through the Temple courts on restored legs
b. People will come from all over to watch something BURN
c. Car Accidents and Traffic Jams
d. NASCAR

f. Nikki Cruz “The Cross and the Switchblade.”
III. When the Power of God Rest on the People of God, The Church Moves Towards the Fight, NOT AWAY FROM IT

V. When the Power of God Rests on the People of God, We Will See Repentance that Leads to Revival
a. Repentance is Central to the Gospel Message
i. Matthew 3:1-2
ii. Matthew 4:17
iii. Zaccheus restored what he had taken 4fold and gave half of everything he had to the poor
iv. The prodigal son recognized his sin and RETURNED to his father’s house. He recognized LUKE 15:21
b. Repentance requires
i. Recognizing what is broken
1. Engage in Prayer (ask the Holy Spirit to reveal your sin)
2. Engage with Scripture (Psalm 119:11)
ii. Restoring what we have taken
1. In an article about the Pentecostal revival that broke out in Korea in 1907, Vance Christie writes,
About 1,500 people gathered in the Central Presbyterian Church for that final prayer service. As the meeting progressed, all were astonished when the leading Elder of the church suddenly stood up and publicly confessed: “I am an Achan. God can’t bless because of me. About a year ago a friend of mine, when dying, called me to his house and said, ‘Elder, I am about to pass away. I want you to manage my affairs; my wife is unable.’ I said, ‘Rest your heart; I will do it.’
“I did manage that widow’s estate,” the elder continued, “but I managed to put 100 dollars of her money into my own pocket. I have hindered God. I am going to give the 100 dollars back to that widow tomorrow morning.”
Instantly the hindering barrier to the Lord’s blessing was removed, and conviction of sin swept across the audience. The church service, which had begun at 7 p.m., continued till 2 a.m. Throughout that time dozens of people at once were standing, weeping, as they awaited their turn to confess their transgressions.
2. The Story of Achan in Joshua 7:10-26

1. The apostles teaching was central to the content of what was to be studied. This was one reason that the replacement of Judas was so important – the apostles , the eyewitnesses of all Jesus had done (and earwitnesses of all He had said) would be the ones whom the Holy Spirit would remind of the crucial truths by which the church would be directed for years to come. I know this morning has been a little bit different. I know this isn’t the typical Sunday Morning message, But I wonder how many of you have ever walked away from a service thinking, “I Should Have Gone To The Altar?”
How many of you have ever walked away thinking, “I Missed an opportunity to meet with God?”
How many of you were here for everyone of those messages, but barely remember half of them or any of them.
I felt strongly that it is important to take time to remember where we have been, so we can adjust course if necessary.
