“He Is” our mediator between God and man
He is your Faith.
Jesus is your Stability
Part of pastoral letters Paul wrote to others who are leading churches and intended to be shared with the local church. Preserved for us and still important for us to hear and to heed.
Warning & Introduction in chapter 1 - provides instruction in chapter 2
We are going to look at the first of those instructions today. He begins by “urging” / “exhorting”
Someone has well said, “Nature forms us. Sin deforms us. Education informs us. BUT ONLY CHRIST TRANSFORMS US.” The Lord doesn’t expect us to do everything, but He does expect us to do something. He expects us to be more alert to the opportunities around us to pray, live and witness for Christ.
Please stand as we honor the reading of God’s Word.
1 Timothy 2:1–7 NIV
1 I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle—I am telling the truth, I am not lying—and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
THE WORD OF GOD, FOR THE PEOPLE OF GOD

PRAYER

Prayer - vv 1-3
An influence on our society
Synonyms - request, prayer, intersession, thanksgiving
The best thing for our world is to PRAY!
Pray for everyone (ALL); pray for government leaders
Pray for those you meet and interact with
Elsewhere the Bible says - pray without ceasing
Not only does it impact those we pray for but prayer impacts us as we deepen our relationship with God
Goal: peaceful/quiet in godliness/holiness
Why: It pleases God

MEDIATOR

Mediator vv 4-5
God desires all to be saved
One God / One Mediator - Jesus
The “Link” between God & Man
Jesus is making intercession for us - we don’t have to be an Elijah calling out to God

RANSOM

Ransom vv 6-7
Available to all - Jew & Gentile - no matter the background or past history
At the heart of the gospel is the ransom Jesus paid on the cross
“Jesus Paid It All”

ALL

First of “all” - prayer for all (everyone)
“all” men to be saved
ransom for “all”
“All” includes the unbeliever
--------------
Paul reminds Timothy and us to pray
He reminds us that Jesus is our Mediator
He reminds us that Jesus is our Ransom
