Serving (Our Reflection)

Text:  John 13:1-17

Proposition:  A disciples is a follower of his Master.

Application:  Service is a reflection of our obedience to Jesus.

I.  The Example

a.  And Jesus took

b.  The servant role

II.  The Explanation

a.  You shall do as I have done

III. The Execution

a.  Finding our SHAPE

         i.  Spiritual gifts.

In Ephesians 4 and I Corinthians 12 Paul emphasizes that God has gifted us with unique talents to serve the larger body of believers.  People should serve within their giftedness.  http://www.elmertowns.com/spiritual_gifts_test/

          ii. Heart.  Psalm 37:4

The biblical concept is not romantic love but motivation.  If you are serving in an area for which you are passionate it is much more likely that you will take ownership in their area of ministry.

          iii.  Abilities.

People should be placed in areas where their natural abilities can be used for the sake of the kingdom.  Examples: using people who are fluent with html to create the church website, while placing someone who is a great cook in the connecting meal ministry, or a person who is very personable as a greeter during services.

         iv.  Personality.

People’s involvement should be complementary to their personality type. Allowing a person’s to understand their temperament and personality type and uses it as a strength and not a hindrance.
