8/30/89 WED.                                                       P.1

SATAN IS OUT THERE SEEKING HOW HE MIGHT DEVOUR, TRIP PEOPLE UP, CAUSE PEOPLE TO FALL, HE TRIES TO GET PEOPLE INTO DIFFERENT BONDAGES. (JOH 10:10) The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have {it} more abundantly. (KJV)  WE KNOW QUITE A BIT ABOUT WHAT SATAN WANTS TO DO TO US.

     I. ? BUT HOW ARE WE GOING TO AVOID HIS SNARES?

          A. 1ST WE HAVE TO KNOW WHO & WHAT SATAN IS. (Hebrews 1:13‑14 KJV)

(13) But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? (14) Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?

               1. BEFORE SATAN FELL HE WAS ONE OF GOD'S ANGEL'S. HE WAS THEN CALLED LUCIFER AN ANOINTED CHERUB, THAT'S THE HIGHEST RANKING ANGEL.  SO WE KNOW SATAN IS A SPIRITUAL BEING. (EPH 6:12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high {places}. (KJV)

               2. THE BIBLE CALLS SATAN THE RULER OF DARKNESS, PRINCE OF DEMONS, THE WICKED ONE, & MANY OTHERS. HE IS OUR ENEMY, OUR ADVERSARY, AS A MATTER OF FACT THE BIBLE CALLS HIM OUR ADVERSARY.

          B. ? NOW HOW ARE WE GOING TO AVOID HIS SNARES ?

               1. ACT 20:28 HERE WE SEE THAT WE HAVE BEEN BOUGHT W\ A PRICE, THE BLOOD OF JESUS. 1CO 6:19‑20 ‑‑ WE ARE THE TEMPLE OF THE H.S. & AGAIN IT SAYS WE HAVE BEEN BOUGHT W\ A PRICE. IN OTHER WORDS WE ARE THE LORD'S.

               2. NOW YOU MIGHT REMEMBER THE PARABLE THAT JESUS TOLD ABOUT A MAN GOING TO A WEDDING AND WENT TO SIT IN THE BEST SEAT. A MORE NOBLE CAME & THE 1ST MAN WAS ASKED TO MOVE, TO GIVE UP HIS SEAT, SO HE DID. HE GAVE IT UP TO THE ONE WHO WAS MORE NOBLE OR MORE WORTHY.

               3. (EPH 4:27) Neither give place to the devil. (KJV)

WHEN YOU ALLOW THINGS TO GET IN LIKE ANGER, STRIFE, UNFORGIVNESS, REJECTION. WHEN YOU GIVE PLACE TO THOSE THINGS, YOUR GIVING PLACE TO THE DEVIL. YOUR GIVING SATAN A SEAT IN YOUR LIFE, BUT IT'S NOT YOUR LIFE IT'S THE LORD'S. YOUR GIVING PLACE TO WHAT YOU THINK A MORE NOBLE ONE OR A MORE WORTHY ONE.

                   a. YOU'RE PROBABLY NOT DOING IT CONSCIOUSLY. LETS TAKE REJECTION, YOU MIGHT FEEL REJECTED BECAUSE OF SOMETHING IN THE PAST, BUT GOD SAYS YOU'RE THE HEAD NOT THE TAIL, YOUR A SOMEBODY. BUT YOU'VE HAD THIS FEELING FOR A LONG TIME & YOU TRUST THAT FELLING AS BEING TRUE. SO WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS GIVING PLACE TO A MORE NOBLE ONE OR A MORE WORTHY & WHAT YOU'RE DOING IS ASKING THE LORD TO GIVE UP HIS SEAT SO THAT REJECTION CAN TAKE THAT SEAT.

                   b. THAT'S GRIEVOUS TO THE LORD. YOU'VE GIVEN PLACE TO THE DEVIL IN THE LORD'S HOUSE.

                   C. REJECTION, & HURT & SIMILAR THINGS ARE GIVING PLACE TO THE DEVIL. IT'S OPENING THE DOOR FOR MORE OF THE DEVIL'S WORK. THAT'S WHY PAUL WRITES, Neither give place to the devil.  (KJV)

II. (JAM 4:7) Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. (KJV)

          A. IN ORDER FOR THE DEVIL TO FLEE FROM YOU, YOU MUST RESIST THE DEVIL, & IN ORDER FOR YOU TO RESIST THE DEVIL YOU MUST SUBMIT YOURSELF TO GOD.

          B. ONE OF THE MOST COMMON WAYS TO SUBMIT TO GOD IS DON'T

STRAY. ‑‑PSA 119:67 1. SOMETIMES CHRISTIANS NEGLECT THEIR PRAYER LIVES, OR THEY FAIL TO STUDY GOD'S WORD AS THEY SHOULD, MAYBE THEY DON'T GET THE FELLOWSHIP W/ OTHER CHRISTIANS, MAYBE THEY DON'T COME TO CHURCH THE WAY THEY SHOULD. 2. WHAT HAPPENS THEN IS MANY TIMES THEY GO BACK TO THEIR OLD LIFE STYLE & THEY BECOME A VICTIM OF ONE OF SATAN'S SNARES.

              3. WE MUST GUARD OUR DEVOTIONAL LIFE DILIGENTLY & DRAW NEAR TO GOD DAILY.

III. IN AN AREA OF RESISTING THE DEVIL, WE NEED TO GUARD AGAINST PRIDE. ‑‑ PRO 16:18

          A. SOME CHRISTIANS LACK HUMILITY. THEY DESIRE THE PRAISE & HONOR OF PEOPLE, RATHER THAN THE APPROVAL OF GOD. (John 12:42‑43 KJV)

(42) Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess {him}, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: (43) For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

          B. WE SHOULD FOLLOW JESUS AS OUR EXAMPLE. ‑‑ JOH 8:28‑29  HE SAID HE COULD DO NOTHING BY HIMSELF, BUT HE DEPENDED ON THE FATHER. HE PLEASED HIS FATHER.

          C. WE NEED TO HUMBLE OURSELVES TOO. (JAM 4:10) Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (KJV)

IV. ANOTHER AREA OF RESISTING THE DEVIL IS FOR YOU NOT TO SIN. ROM 12:20‑21

          A. I THINK THAT'S TELLING US NOT TO REPAY EVIL FOR EVIL. THERE'S A LOT OF EVIL GOING ON TODAY. SO MANY PEOPLE ARE FALLING INTO SIN THESE DAYS.

          B. ? WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO DO IF SOMEONE DOES FALL IN TO SIN? (GAL 6:1) Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. (KJV)

IIV. IN ORDER FOR US TO SEE THE DEVIL FLEE FROM US ON A REGULAR BASIS, WE MUST DO WHAT I CALL DON'T STOP. ‑‑MAT 10:22

          A. SOME HAVE MADE A GOOD START BUT HAVE COME TO A BAD STOP IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE. SATAN ATTRACTS, DISTRACTS, & ATTACKS THRU HIS SUBTILITY.

          B. NO PROBLEM IS TOO DIFFICULT, NO TRIAL IS TOO SEVERE, NO BURDEN IS TOO HEAVY, BECAUSE WE HAVE GOD W/ US & GOD IS MORE THAN A MATCH FOR SATAN. ‑‑ ROM 8:37‑39.
