Isaiah 61:10 NKJV
10 I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, My soul shall be joyful in my God; For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation, He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments, And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Proverbs 11:24–25 NKJV
24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself.

Luke 1:5–25 NKJV
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years. 8 So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, 9 according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense. 11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. He will also be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb. 16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.” 18 And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” 19 And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. 20 But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.” 21 And the people waited for Zacharias, and marveled that he lingered so long in the temple. 22 But when he came out, he could not speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless. 23 So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house. 24 Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, 25 “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”

1. Broken and still Blessing!

Luke 1:5–10 NKJV
5 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the division of Abijah. His wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years. 8 So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division, 9 according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense.

are you a Carnal Christian or a Spirit led disciple?

Zachariah was without an heir and on top of that he had no son. this state of Childlessness led to some problems:
they might have been seen as having some “hidden sin” (they where judged spiritually). \
Luke 1:7 NKJV
7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both well advanced in years.
Luke 1:
they had no one to care for them beyond there ability to care for themselves.
they had no one to care for them beyond there ability to care for themselves.
they served anyway.
Luke 1:
Luke 1:8 NKJV
8 So it was, that while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his division,
we are the people of God.
anymore it’s hard to get people to to serve,
people who are Going to grow in faith need to be able to be counted on when things aren’t just peachy.
our witness is when things happen to us, not because we display some “Image” of plastic piety.
this is why we need the word of God to penetrate our minds and transform our thinking.
we need relationships with real brothers and sisters.
service is a great way to get to know people.
it’s a great way to learn how to actually live this out.

2. God moves again after 400 years of silence

in this passage God moves after not moving for 400 years of not saying anything. they where occupied by the Romans.
it’s easy to see how a person could get discouraged.

Just because God hasn’t yet, doesn't mean he wont.

Galatians 6:9 NKJV
9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.
Galatians 6:1 NKJV
1 Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted.
Luke 1:9–10 NKJV
9 according to the custom of the priesthood, his lot fell to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord. 10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying outside at the hour of incense.

3. God likes to mess up our ‘perfect plans’ with his powerful proclamation.

Luke 1:11–17 NKJV
17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
Luke 1:11–14 NKJV
11 Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13 But the angel said to him, “Do not be afraid, Zacharias, for your prayer is heard; and your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. 14 And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.
He was burning incense at the how of prayer. A priest would only get to do this once in His life if at all.
He was burning incense at the how of prayer. A preist would only get to do this once in His life if at all.
Gabriel which means God is my hero gives an announcement that Zachariah will be a father.
that he is to be called John, means the God of favor, or the God of Grace, (Zacharia) by the way means that God remembers.
John will be filled with the spirit from his mothers womb.
he will be great in the eyes of God and of man.
he will be set apart in the midst of a people who are set apart (sacrifice, is sometimes part of the christian life).

John the baptist, Ministered in the spirit of Elijah, to turn many of the Children of Isreal back to The Father.

As parents we need to turn our hearts back toward are Children.

what are some reasons we are hearts are not turned:
shame.
fear
sorrow
pain.
what can we do?
we can ask God to deal with our shame.
we can take our divided hearts to God.
we can ask God to deal with our sarrow.
we can ask Him to deal with our pain.
Luke 1:16–17 NKJV
16 And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. 17 He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

4. Godly People are real people and have doubts.

3. Godly People are real people and have doubts

3. Godly People are real people and have doubts

Luke 1:
Luke 1:18–20 NKJV
18 And Zacharias said to the angel, “How shall I know this? For I am an old man, and my wife is well advanced in years.” 19 And the angel answered and said to him, “I am Gabriel, who stands in the presence of God, and was sent to speak to you and bring you these glad tidings. 20 But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time.”
Zechariah had huge doubts. so God allowed him to be silent.
Sabbaticals are sometimes God sent.
16And he will turn many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God.
they give us a time to deal with God in silence.
Luke 1:23–25 NKJV
23 So it was, as soon as the days of his service were completed, that he departed to his own house. 24 Now after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived; and she hid herself five months, saying, 25 “Thus the Lord has dealt with me, in the days when He looked on me, to take away my reproach among people.”
17He will also go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, ‘to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,’ and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”
Elizabeth responds differently to God then her husband.
they served in their reproach, and they rejoiced in their burden lifting.
