At this time in history scripture was mostly written in original languages (Greek, Aramaic) or latin.
The general population did not have means or access to read scripture for themselves.
How could they know what scripture says?
Who are they to question the Pope?
This is why getting the Gospel into every language possible is so important.
This is why it is so important for us to know God’s Word.
