What does Inspiration mean?
God did not physically write the Bible
God inspired men, through the Holy Spirit to write the Bible.
God did not physically write the Bible
Scripture is sufficient for all spiritual matters
Scripture Alone has authority over the church
More than any person
More than any tradition
WHAT DOES SCRIPTURE SAY?
Scripture has what we need to know God.
Why is this a big deal?
During the reformation, it was believed that the Pope and his bishops were the “True interpreters” of scripture. To go against them would be to go against God.
Problem: The selling of indulgences for time off in purgatory, or into heaven.
What does scripture say about that?
What does the Pope say about that?
Scripture wins.
Problem #2
At this time in history scripture was mostly written in original languages (Greek, Aramaic) or latin. The general population did not have means or access to read scripture for themselves. How could they know what scripture says? Who are they to question the Pope?
This is why getting the Gospel into every language possible is so important.
This is why it is so important for us to know God’s Word.
Salvation comes from God.
Ephesians 2:8-10
