For the Israelites, their first step was to keep their part of the covenant.
They were to love God with all their hearts, soul, and strength.]
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
      4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
5        Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
We too must seek God first, then success in life will follow as a blessing from the hand of God
Matthew 6:33
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

So, you see just from these passages of scriptures in both the O.T and the N.T. that we cannot just set around and do nothing and expect God to hand all things to us.
When we truly do that which God has asked blessings will flow.
If public transportation is our way of getting from point A to point B, we cannot just stay put and expect to get on the bus- even when we may live on the bus route.
