Personal testimony

I am an ordinary guy. I grew up in in Lawton Oklahoma and could never have planned how my life would turn out.
2 Chronicles 16:9 NIV
For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.”
2 Chronicles 16:9 NIV

First of all I am a husband (50) years, father, grandfather (grumpy), and a friend who grew up in Lawton OK

a. Faith story – Christian home, caring pastor, call to ministry came at the same time as salvation. Found out years later that my mother had prayed for a son who would be a minister.
b. Small town boy who grew up without a dad in my life until I was about 12. Dad was gone 2 years to Korean War and when he returned was not really involved on our lives unless we got into trouble.
c. Ask Peggy to share how we met.
d. Peggy and I were 20 and 18 when we married.
e. Work ethic and always seemed to have an idea there wasn’t anything I couldn’t do. It just never crossed my mind that what I thought about doing was not possible.
f. The importance of having disciplers in my life. Lots of people in my life as a young man who believed in me. HB at seminary-how we met. Though our relationship different now he is still my first call when I am in need of Godly counsel.
g. Gift of faith - First time this was manifested was that God told me that my first child would be a son. I only never doubted that, I was vocal about it –I told others.
h. Life verse – Even as a new believer working in a clothing store.
Philippians 2:3–4 NIV
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
God’s word has played a huge role in our lives especially in our decision-making.
I was early 40’s when we started FOCUS. I had no idea what I was doing – just did what was in front of me.
j. Peggy and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary. Though the journey has been filled with painful lessons, grief and confusion, it has also been an amazing journey filled with joy and the hand of God showing Himself strong on our behalf.

My Bucket list –
Philippians 3:13 NIV
Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,
I have flown in a Soviet helicopter high into the Steppes of Central Asia and eaten a sheep’s eyeball and drunk fermented mare’s milk.
I have driven over the Salang pass in Afghanistan
I have had communion on the Great Wall of China and seen the Terra Cotta warriors of Xi’an.
I have seen wild game in Botswana, swum in the Indian Ocean and pulled a rickshaw in Madagascar.
I have
I have fished for Tuna in the Arabian Gulf and eaten dog in Vietnam

I have been lost in the Medina in Marrakech, slept at the base of Kilimanjaro and seen Mt. Everest from Katmandu.
I have had a picnic on a boat in the Nile and ridden a camel between the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx.
I have walked down the street called straight in Damascus and visited the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
I have stood at the base of the Eifel Tower in Paris and on Mars Hill in Athens.
I have looked out of the bottom of a tanker and watched a stealth bomber attach itself in flight so it could be refueled.
As exciting as these events were these are not stories that I tell. These stories pale in comparison to the adventure that I have had in watching first hand as God showed his power in order that His name may be made great to the ends of the earth. There is nothing that compares to watching lives being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Years ago God began to help me to understand that the desire of his heart was that his name would be made great to the ends of the earth and that there was no greater adventure than to be part of that. God has done immeasurably more than I could ever ask our think. The stories of God’s faithfulness have filled my “bucket list”.
