To Mourn is to be Happy

Matthew 5:4 KJV 1900
4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
convicted over sin ....
last week
Matthew 5:1–3 KJV 1900
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
The first beatitude was to be Poor in Spirit - means beg and understand that we bring nothing to the table for righteousness it all Grace and love from God.
To mourn means to have knowledge of sin in their lives. It bothers them .....
Illustration - a man has a drinking problem ---- it bothers him but drinking goes on .....
His wife hates it
His children hates it
But hates it but not to the pint he is willing to cast everything he has or owns to change his drinking behavior.
Until he morns and weep and this is changed by action the drinking goes on .
But when he morns he throws himself at the mercy of change and does whatever it takes to stop hurting his family....
A ladder, if it to be of any use, must have its first step near the ground… This Gospel blessing reaches down to the very spot where the law leaves us.[1] helpless and hopless
The law will bring you to a place called “poor in spirit” and Jesus will meet you there: “Blessed are the poor in Spirit for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Today we move on to the second Beatitude: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted” ().
There are three kinds of mourning—natural, sinful, and spiritual.
Natural mourning is grieving for someone you have lost -loved one a relationship ....
Sinful mourning - This sinful mourning is pining for what God has not given.
You have an example of this in Ahab, the king of Israel. God gave him a palace and a kingdom, but next to the palace, there was a poor man called Naboth who had a vineyard. Ahab set his eyes on Naboth’s vineyard. The Bible says Ahab became “vexed and sullen.” We might say today that he’s “pouting.” Why? Because he could not get his hands on the vineyard

I Morning -Defined

2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV 1900
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Is mourning over our sin
- is mourning over our sin
example -
Peter -
Luke 22:61–62 KJV 1900
61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. 62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
He mourned repented and went on the be a great preacher apostle
Judas
Matthew 27:3–5 KJV 1900
3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, 4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
2 Corinthians 7:10 KJV 1900
10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Mourning is not forced by God’s Judgements
It not found in afflictions
It not the consequences of sin
It mourning over the sin rather than consequences
many times people will confess and mourn over sin its only because they got caught.
That not mourning that Judas betrayal.
1 Kings 15:24 KJV 1900
24 And Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.
1 Samuel 15:24 KJV 1900
24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.
So Saul confessed. He said he was sorry. He said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord” ().
1 Samuel 15:30 KJV 1900
30 Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the Lord thy God.
I’m sure he had a very long face when he said it. Then he says something else to Samuel, “I have sinned, yet honor me now before the elders of my people” ().
I’m sure he had a very long face when he said it. Then he says something else to Samuel, “I have sinned, yet honor me now before the elders of my people” ().
He appears sorry, but the truth is that he would have continued what he was doing, if he could. He says he is sorry but his focus is on damage limitation. There has not been a change of heart.
Spiritual mourning is the key to tackling what we call “habitual sins,” sins that keep recurring in a person’s life. A true Christian does not live in a cycle of sinning, saying sorry to God and then repeating the same behavior, year after year after year…

II Mourning is Taking Responsibility for Sin

Genesis 3:12 KJV 1900
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

Romans 1:21–25 KJV 1900
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

III Mourning brings Comfort and Happiness

James 4:8–10 KJV 1900
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. 9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
comfort brings hope
It frees us from guilt
(CNN)Frank McAlister's death nearly 25 years ago had long stumped detectives. The 19-year-old's skeletal remains were found in rural Northern California months after the car he'd been driving was found mysteriously abandoned in a Costco parking lot in Redding.
No arrests were made in the two decades since. Then someone walked into a television news station Tuesday and confessed.
I'm going to turn myself in next door at the sheriff's department for a crime I was involved in years ago. ... It was murder," Hawkins, of Shingletown, told KRCR reporter Courtney Kreide
Hawkins told the TV station that his faith in God and overwhelming feelings of guilt led him to confess.
"God, Christ -- these things that have happened throughout my whole life since then, for over 25 years, have pushed me and pushed me to do the right thing," Hawkins said. "I know the wrong can't be changed, but this is the closest I can come to doing the right thing."

Psalm 32:1–6 KJV 1900
1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no guile. 3 When I kept silence, my bones waxed old Through my roaring all the day long. 4 For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: My moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. 5 I acknowledged my sin unto thee, And mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; And thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah. 6 For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: Surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
