The book of John seems so simple and straight forward but some find controversy, in the date and authorship to me the solution is to go with what had been the standard for a long time.
John is the author and it was written around the end of the first century between 60 and 70 A.D. .
The structure seems to be Prologue 1:1-18 , Epilogue/Summary 21:1-25 The signs 1:19-12:50 the Passion 13:1-20:31.
The recipients were early Christians.
This passage more than any other that we have read in John so far makes a clear and compelling presence for Jesus as the Son of God.
There are two words to pay very close attention to they are, oida is used =we know in V.5 twice.
