People in our world make all kinds of promises
Some promises are more trustworthy than others
Some promises take longer than others
Sometimes we wonder whether the person will ever keep their promise
In the Bible, God makes all kinds of promises
· Eve & serpent, Abraham, David.

· Promise that God would come and bring eternal peace
God is trustworthy but the promises take a long time and sometimes they might have wondered whether God would keep His promise
People wonder whether God will really come back again
· 2 Peter 3:3-4 , “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised?
Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.”
· We might ask that in 2018
· It’s taking a long time.
Will God really keep his promise?
If yes, what difference does that make for us today?
· Christ has come, Christ will come again.
That’s what we say in Advent, but is it really true?
· Mary, Joseph, Elizabeth, and other faithful Jews might have asked the same thing.

God promised Mary that she would give birth to the Messiah
· No word from God will ever fail
God promised Elizabeth that she would have a child
· Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfil His promises to her.
God’s promise to Abraham’s descendants would be fulfilled through Mary’s child.
· He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors.”

Will Christ Really Come Again?
God is not slow in Keeping His Promise; He is Patient
· 2nd Peter 3:8-9.
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.
Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming.

13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.
14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him…

Christ’s Coming Matters Even If We Die First
What If we die first?
· What if you are 75 or92 (or 17 for that matter) and might die before Jesus comes back?
· We won’t miss out.
· (Paraphrasing 1 Thess 5:15-17.
The dead in Christ will rise first, then those still alive will be caught up to meet them.
So we will all see Him together with our own eyes.
The Lord will come down, the Trumpet will Call.
We will be with the Lord forever.
· There will be no more death, grief, pain, sin, war
· There will be true peace… Forever.
· Now that’s promise.
· Christ has Come!
