Introduction:

How does the story the 3 Little Pigs go?
Did you know that the story of the 3 little pigs is king of biblical?
1 Corinthians 3:9–11 NKJV
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 3:9 NKJV
For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field,

Before you can even start building anything, what do you need to have?

A foundation is necessary to have any kind of structure.
It also matters what material you lay as a foundation.
If it is the wrong material then you are going to have problems in the long run.

Foundation is Jesus Christ

oundation is Jesus Christ
Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:24-

Matthew 7:24–27 NKJV
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:24-

Building on any foundation takes faith in the kind of foundation you are laying.

Would you enter a building, if you knew it had a sketchy foundation?
No, you are trusting, or putting your faith in the architect that they laid it right, and with the right material.
Otherwise you would be kind of foolish for entering.
The thing is, you can’t see a foundation at face value, so you have to have faith when you enter what is built upon it.

All foundations will be destroyed, except those that are being built upon Jesus Christ.

It is a promise that everything that we know and don’t know will be burned up and destroyed by God in the ebd.
It is an important detail to keep in mind as you live your life for God.
Jesus, and all things build on Him will be the only things that will survive.
A foundation is necessary to have any kind of structure.
You can have faith in the foundation of Jesus, because He will last.
Jesus is
It also matter what material you lay as a foundation
Bema Seat Judgement:
1 Corinthians 3:12–16 NKJV
Now if anyone builds on this foundation

Not only does it matter what kind of foundation you lay, but what kind of materials you build

We are all building something for God.

The materials that you build with show your effort.

The Bible Exposition Commentary Chapter Three: Be Wise about … the Local Church (1 Corinthians 3)

Gold, Silver, Precious Stones

Wood, Hay, Stubble

Permanent

Passing, temporary

Beautiful

Ordinary, even ugly

Valuable

Cheap

Hard to obtain

Easy to obtain

Gold, Silver, Precious Stone: Wood, Hay, Stubble:
1.Permanent. 1. Passing, Temporary.
2. Beautiful. 2. Ordinary, Ugly.
3. Valuable. 3. Cheap.
4. Hard to obtain. 4. Easy to obtain.
“Precious stones doesn’t mean jewels, but fine stone materials like marble and granite. Mixing the wisdom of men with the wisdom of God in the work of building the church is like using alternate layers of straw and marble in building. Straw may be fine, it may have a place (in the barn), but it is an inadequate building material. In the same way, human wisdom and fleshly attractions may have a place in life, but not in the building of the church.” -David Guzik
-David Guzik
The previous stone like marble and granite have to be cut and it is a lot of hard work.
The Gold& Silver has to be mined molded right.
Wood, hay, and stubble don’t take that much effort to build with.

God will test the materials that you build with.

What will He test it with?
Fire
Fire is the same force, but effects different materials differently.
Wood, hay stubble, are all susceptible to catch on fire and burn away.
Gold, silver, precious stones are all durable and do not catch fire.
gold ad silver can melt at the right temperature, but they won't be burn a way.
This is all a judgement.
Only those materials will survive.
The imagery is describing the sonstruction of the temple of God.
The temple was made with marble and granite stones quarried from miles away and not cheap materials.

You will be required to pass through fire.

do you think th
Does that sound fun?
Will it be a literal fire?
No it probably won't.
But it sounds scary to me.
Even if marble, gold, or silver passes through the fire and isn't burned away, they still have to feelthe heat...whatever that is.
What does this look like?

You will be judged how you build:

Who likes being judged?

The Bema Seat:

What Paul is describing is called the Bema seat:
3 Little Pigs.
Olympics were played and there was only one winner.
It is mentioned in other parts of the Bible and has a few different pictures to describe this event.
The bema seat was a raised/elevated seat that a person would sit at and be above other people.
They did not have a gold, silver, or bronze medal as a reward back then.

Who here didn’t know that you will have to stand before God?
Every person is going to have to stand before God and answer for everything they have done.

The imagery used in other parts of the Bible is of the Olympic sports.

Professional sports were a big deal back then, just like they are not.
Olympians were celebrities and famous.
They trained strenuously and intensely.
They worked their butts off.
Back

What do Olympians win in the modern sports, and how many places are there?

Gold, Silver, & Bronze Medals.
There are 3 winning places.

Ancient Olympics only had one winner, and the prize might shock you:

They didn’t win gold, silver, bronze, or anything like those.

They won something called a kotinos:

An wreath or crown of woven olive branches.

They trained so hard and exerted themselves for a crown of branches.

What would happen if fire came in contact with the kotinos?

They strived for a prize that will burn away.

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 NKJV
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it. And everyone who competes for the prize is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a perishable crown, but we for an imperishable crown. Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.
1 cor 9:24-27

The Bema Seat is a Judgement:

Who here didn’t know that you will have to stand before God
Every person is going to have to stand before God and answer for everything they have done.
Every person is going to have to stand before God and answer for everything they have done.

There are many people who think that they are not going to be judged by God, because they are Christians.

1 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV
Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
Every single person will have to stand before God who will sin on a Judgement seat.

The Bema Seat is a Judgement:

Who here didn’t know that you will have to stand before God?
The question is, what judgement.
Every person is going to have to stand before God and answer for everything they have done.
They are right and wrong.
Christians are not going to be judged and punished for their sins.
Christians will not be judged for sin.
Jesus paid that on the cross.
That is a free gift.
That was 100% paid for on the cross of Jesus Christ.
Romans 8:1 NKJV
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

The people who have not put their faith in Jesus and rejected Him, will be judged for their sins at something called the “Great White Throne Judgement:

Going to heaven is a free gift.
2 Corinthians 5:10 NKJV
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
The idea, is that God’s holiness and righteousness will show the reality of how much you have sinnned and God’s purity will be overwhelming.

For those who have been given freedom and forgiveness from sin, they are going to have to answer for everything they do or do not do for Jesus Christ, and everything they do or do not do with Jesus Christ.

An example:
A bad example is like
A convicted felon iset free from a death sentence in prison.
He has a new life before him.
He shouldhave a changed attitude and heart, because of how much he was forgiven.
You would hink that he would do something good with his life.
But he ends up
But he ends up doing crime again.
Or he ends up just not doing anything good or productive with his life.
This might make thin he wasted his new life and freedom, when someone in the position with second chance should do more, because they realize how precious a gift they have been given.
have been forgiven.

“It is a sobering thought: many, many people who believe they are serving God, but are doing it in an unworthy manner or with unworthy “materials” will come to find in eternity that they have, in reality, done nothing for the Lord. Some will be saved, but with a life that was wasted, and receive no crown to give to Jesus, for His glory (as in ).”

I know some of you might be like: “Duh, of course you build things out of strong, durable materials. I am not an idiot!”
Of course you say that, but I guarantee that there is some hay, straw, wood, etc. in your building right now.
I guarantee there is somewhere you are not giving God your best.
Somewhere you are lacking.
