In the miracle of Jesus walking on the water, Jesus shows His divinity over all of creation. All of the created world was under His authority. With this truth in mind, Jesus sets for man the proper response, that we would surrender ourselves to Christ for in Him is all we need. We are so focused on the work of our hands and meeting of our everyday needs. Jesus has come to shift our eyes past the temporary to the eternal. In Him alone are we able to find what we need for life, not just eternal life but life here and now.

Jesus is the Authority Over All

John 6:16–21 NIV
When evening came, his disciples went down to the lake, where they got into a boat and set off across the lake for Capernaum. By now it was dark, and Jesus had not yet joined them. A strong wind was blowing and the waters grew rough. When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened. But he said to them, “It is I; don’t be afraid.” Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
John 6:16-21
After the feeding of the five thousand, where Jesus shows his divinity over creation, He show even more fully the fullness of His divinity. Jesus goes and meets the disciples on the lake.
Every fisherman who took to the water of the Sea of Galilee knew that they were not in control.
Jesus shows His full authority over creation as Jesus walks on the waves. The storm is raging and Jesus is walking to the boat. The disciples are filled with fear because who could have this kind of authority over creation. Jesus is in complete control of all of the creation of His hand.

Jesus is the Authority to Trust

John 6:22-
John 6:22–27 NIV
The next day the crowd that had stayed on the opposite shore of the lake realized that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples, but that they had gone away alone. Then some boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks. Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus. When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”
Our eyes are so focused on the immediate. We are drawn to the immediate gratification and are willing to sacrifice all for the sake of the now.
For many of us, we are drawn to Jesus for the same reason the crowds were. What can Jesus do for me? We desire Him to fix or aid us in our current stresses and difficulties.
Jesus turns our eyes to see the futility of our thinking. God has sent Jesus to point us to the true authority for our lives. We are not created to focus on the everyday, but to focus on the One from whom each day is given.

Trust in Jesus is the Only Response

John 6:28–40 NIV
Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” So they asked him, “What sign then will you give that we may see it and believe you? What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” “Sir,” they said, “always give us this bread.” Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
John 6:
The only response to who Jesus is that is appropriate is to trust in Him. The more that we trust in Him, the more authentic our response.
The work that we are called to do is to point to the work that Christ has already done. It is for Him and through Him that the work has been accomplished. Our lives were designed to be a showcase of the Lord.
If God is the giver of all things, then He will continue to be the One who gives what is needed. Can we trust Him to do that?
Jesus is the bread of life. He is the One from whom life comes. As we trust in Him, we find life, real life.
This is what we are designed for.
