I don't know about you, but those guys make me smile, and smile on the inside every single week, we are in week number 4 of Stay Positive.
Ha-Foke-Bah
I. Topic: Enthusiasm - Enthusiasm isn’t a product of your environment as much as the product of your heart.
Enthusiasm isn’t a product of your environment as much as the product of your heart.
A. Today I want to talk to you about - קִנְאָתִי לַיהוה - qinathi la-Adonai “Enthusiastic for the Lord.”
B. Too many people have lost their passion and zeal for life. Once the fire was bright and burning but something has changed, and a flame has turned into a flicker.
1. Once you were excited about your job but now…
2. Once you were excited about going to college but now…
3. Once you were excited about your marriage but now..
4. Once you were lit up about serving the Lord but now…
C. The truth is, there's two different types of people in the world.
D. Define Enthusiasm - En means in. Theous, we get our word theology. The study of God. En theous, the root of enthusiasm, literally means in God, or it means filled with God. Anytime from now on when you think of enthusiastic, what you need to understand is, what you're saying is, this is born out of intimacy with God. Enthusiasm isn't just a mood, it's a spiritual result of an intimate relationship with God. In fact, I want to show you just a couple of sets of verses to set the tone for our study on enthusiasm today.
There are those who let their environments influence their enthusiasm.
There are those who let their environments influence their enthusiasm.
There are those who let their enthusiasm influence their environments.
3. There are those who let what goes around them dictate the mood and spirit of their lives, and there are those who let the enthusiasm and mood and spirit of their lives influence the mood of those around them.
4. The truth is we can all have areas in life where it becomes stagnant.
5. If you are planning on staying positive, planning on seeing God take you to the next level in your life, planning on that miracle, that promotion, that next place you are going to have to stay full of zeal, enthusiasm for the Lord and you got to know how to get the fire back or keep the fire lit.
II. The greatest enemies to your future, to you breakthrough, to your God level destiny is luke-warmness. –
Revelation 3:14–22 TLV
To the angel of Messiah’s community in Laodicea write: “Thus says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Originator of God’s creation: I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. Oh, that you were either cold or hot! So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to spew you out of My mouth. For you say, ‘I am rich, I have made myself wealthy, and I need nothing.’ But you do not know that you are miserable and pitiable and poor and blind and naked. I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may be rich, and white clothes so that you may dress yourself and so the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed, and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore, be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. To the one who overcomes I will grant the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I myself overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Ruach is saying to Messiah’s communities.”
II. The greatest enemies to your future, to you breakthrough, to your God level destiny is luke-warmness. –
A. Cold water was refreshing, hot water was healing but lukewarm made you nauseas and sick.
B. Lukewarm people are self-sufficient people.
C. Lukewarm people chase away the Lord of the Lamp-stand
C. Lukewarm people chase away the Lord of the Lampstand
C. Lukewarm people chase away the Lord of the Lampstand

D. The cure for lukewarmness is enthusiasm

III. The fastest track to God’s next level in your is to stay enthusiastic
Romans 12:11 TLV
Do not be lagging in zeal; be fervent in spirit. Keep serving the Lord,
III. The fastest track to God’s next level in your is to stay enthusiastic ()
A. Read the Passage
1. Michael, you don’t understand my job, my marriage, my service at the congregation just does not get me excited anymore.
2. What part of don’t you understand “I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you.”
2 Timothy 1:6 TLV
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
3. Don’t Settle For Mediocrity
4. I don’t care what this person does or does not do, I am going to be passionate about seeing God’s dreams for my life come to pass.
A. You don’t have to have something exciting going on to be excited. You can choose to fan to flame the gift of God.
B. Do you go to work each day with enthusiasm.
C. Or do you constantly walking around saying
1. I don’t like,
2. If they would only give me more credit than maybe.
3. No you need to change your attitude.
4. You need to be enthusiastic about God has given you to do:
We are told to do everything with enthusiasm to the Lord. The fast tract to the future is not through lackluster and complaining through enthusiasm and excitement. We are told to do everything with zeal as unto the Lord.
1. If you are raising young children don’t’ hate it, love this.
2. There will not always be there someone to cheer you up, you have to.
3. We are told to do everything with zeal as unto the Lord. If you are going to work and just putting in the bare minimum to get the job done, there is not wonder you are not the first to get promoted, the first to get a raise.
4. Always complaining, always leaving early, never staying late. “Well, they don’t pay me enough.” We are told to serve with enthusiasm and zeal unto the Lord regardless of the pay. You do that and God will promote you better than any man can.
5. We should be examples of the zeal of the Lord of Hosts. We should be asking ourselves, “Does my enthusiasm draw people to me.” Or am I just a toxic person that pushes everybody away by my attitude, griping, gossiping and complaining.
Fictional Story of Tom Sawyer who made the most of painting the fence with enthusiasm. He did it with a pep in his step and having fun. His friends saw it and said, “Would you let us paint your fence.” He said, “oh, no that is my fence, my project, I am really loving this.” He played it up real good. Well, what do you know Tom had all his friends doing all the work simply because they wanted what he had, “the enthusiasm, the joy. Not just doing a job but doing something that was so meaningful it made a person feel good.” See, you can’t get that unless you know you are working for God and not for men.
What would happened to you if you started living enthusiastically? What if you started doing that when you were mowing your lawn. Who knows, your neighbor might start cutting your lawn for you.
Do you know that employers like it when their employees like working for their company. You show up every day with a good attitude, working hard. Rather than just showing up.
1. Studies show that people get promoted not because of how smart they are or even how experienced they are but how enthusiastic they are about the company they work for.
2. I don’t hire anybody here at Beth Messiah that does not think this is the greatest place in the world to work.
1. All my employees I have hired
2. Agustin W
3. This is the most enthusiastic congregation, “You are the most enthusiastic congregation we have ever been in, We feel so encouraged every time we come and go and want to come back”
4. Here
IV. There are always going to be some people who try to put the breaks on your enthusiasm.
A. This is what happened to David in .
B. It says that Michal despised him she bzh held him in contempt (cf. ).
C. John Gottman calls this the second horseman of the marriage apocalypse.
D. Contempt is when you call people names, roll your eyes, sneer, mock, get sarcastic, general all around disgust about everything they do. What contempt shows is not the speck in your brother’s eye but the log in your own. Usually contempt is just a result of some negative thought or unresolved offense you have with your spouse or friend or even a child.
E. Michal was trying to put the breaks on David’s enthusiasm with her contempt for him.
2 Samuel 6:20–23 TLV
David returned to bless his own household. But Saul’s daughter Michal came out to meet David and said, “How the king of Israel distinguished himself today, when he uncovered himself today in the eyes of the slave girls of his subjects, as any vulgar fellow would shamelessly uncover himself!” “It was before Adonai,” David said to Michal, “who chose me instead of your father and all his household, appointing me ruler over the people of Adonai, over Israel! So I danced Before Adonai, and will dishonor myself even more than this, and will be low in my own eyes. Yet in the eyes of the slave girls whom you mentioned, I will be honored.” So Saul’s daughter Michal had no children to the day of her death.
F. The irony is that while Michal was throwing contempt David’s way, David was trying to bring a blessing her way .
F. The irony is that while Michal was throwing contempt David’s way, David was trying to bring a blessing her way .
G. David addressed the negative thought, the offense ().
H. There is a powerful lesson and warning in this passage that David’s enthusiasm was blessed of Adonai but Michal’s contempt was cursed.
V. Here is what I am trying to tell you: Enthusiasm is not a product of your environment as much as it is the product of your heart.
V. Here is what I am trying to tell you: Enthusiasm is not a product of your environment as much as it is the product of your heart.
A. David’s heart was to honor the Lord not anyone else. Micha’s heart was to honor herself not David’s Lord.
B. Enthusiasm for the Lord and contempt for others are both fruits that manifest from the heart.
C. Charles Spurgeon in 1864 traveled from England to New England to preach on the subject of revival in the States. He was talking to a group of leaders and he said it “it astonishes me to hear some people talk. When their meetings are small, the mourn for the smallness, and the when Spirit of God comes, the people get excited, the crowds come and things start to change, then they shake their head and say, ‘Ah, we are afraid of all this change; we must be careful now.’”
1. Here is the point he was making: make up your mind are you excited about the growth of the Kingdom of God or are you going to show contempt?
2. Don’t mourn for growth if your going to show contempt for it when it comes.
3. Don’t pray for the harvest if your going to hate the changes it takes to reap it.
4. Be zealous for the Lord and enthusiastic for his work.
4. Be zealouos for the Lord and enthusiastic for his work.
5. If you start praying for God to send you a promotion when you get it don’t start getting lazy, complain and fault finding. No, serve the Lord with joy and gladness.
D. I believe
1. Joshua and Caleb were enthusiastic about the Lord and that’s why they wanted to take the land. They knew everything was going to change from nomads to warriors, from desert walkers to city dwellers, from herdsman to farmers.
2. I think Gideon was called an enthusiast in the camp of Israel
3. I think Paul was an enthusiast in .
I am not going to far when I say that one of the most vital signs of a healthy believer is zeal, is enthusiasm for Adonai and all He has given to you.
A. You know my birthday is this weekend and if my kids came and gave me a gift and said, “Okay, abba here is my gift to you, I had to spend 10% of my money on it and I am so put out by this.” I would say take it back I don’t want your gift. Or if when I left my house in the morning and I kissed my wife goodbye like I do every morning if I said, “Okay, here is your kiss. Just doing my duty. Hope you appreciate it.” Lauren Vowell would say you better want to kiss me, want to love me, be enthusiastic about loving me.
B. Lots of people give but not with enthusiasm, a cheerful heart. I don’t give because I have to, I give because I want to. I don’t preach and lead CBM because I have to, I want to do this. I want to be here every Shabbat serving.
C. Don’t loose your enthusiasm for God, don’t blame God or other people for your stagnation, fan the flame of God. You want to know how you can fan the flame:
1. Have a Holy Ghost Pep Talk With Yourself
2. Have a Miracle Memory not Monument Phot
D. Husband and Wives, I can’t tell you how important it is that you do not loose your enthusiasm for one another.
1. If you don’t start doing this in your marriage I can make a prediction, you will not make it.
2. Once you give up being zealous for one another, enthusiastic for each other the four horseman of the marriage apocalypse will bring: criticism, contempt, stonewalling and defensiveness.
3. John Gottman who is a trained expert on marriage counseling of predicting which marriages has a 90% success rate of predicting which marriages will fail within three years if the four horseman are present.
4. Get Enthusiastic for one another.
1. Enhance Your Love Maps
2. Nurture Your Fondness and Admiration
3. Turn to each other and not away
4. Be Influenced by your spouse
5. Calm Yourself, Don’t be Such a Hot Head
6. Become a Dream Detective
7. Accept and Appreciate Who They Are

b. I don’t always communicate how I feel well. I know sometimes I say I love you when I really mean, “I want to solve the problem.” Or “I just want ten more minutes of time with you.” Or, “God, I am so grateful that 20 years ago you picked me and not someone else.”
c. I struggle to come up with those words. I wish I could do better.
d. We were in the car and my wife could tell I was feeling down about not communicating my heart to her well. So she said, “Michael I was thinking about this song” and she started to play it and said, “just hold my hand.”
e. Play song at 0:17 – 1:19.
f. It made my heart light up to know that this gal meets me where I am. She knows that I struggle all week to find words to preach a 30 minute message. She knows that I struggle to find the right words. I often want say more but don’t have it. And to know that she knows me well enough that she can see my love for her in my eyes, that she knows how much I love her even when I can’t say anything at all.
Some of you know this is talking directly to you. That is not me, that is the Holy Spirit saying this is a wake up call.
