Usually, we approach the Bible with the intention of learning something.
++
We hope that a new understanding, a fresh nuance… a previously unseen revelation will be given to us…
++
And we want to walk away, with a little excitement over the discovery… our understanding of doctrine is expanded… our perception of truth is clarified… our relationship with God is deepened.
++
AND THAT’S ALWAYS MY HOPE… that you would learn something amazing from the scriptures… because, for those of us who have the HS in our lives… the scriptures are amazing.
++
....THERE IS A SPIRITUAL CONNECTION.. Between the Spirit of God… interpreting the spiritual words of the Bible… TO OUR SPIRIT.
++
When we are in a place where we allow the Spirit to work in this way… and our eyes are opened to His truth… we can relate to those words that David spoke in …

I hope you have these kinds of experiences with the Scriptures.
We might go to them begrudgingly… because our flesh needs to be convinced...
++
But when we are in them, and the Spirit is a work… I hope our learning brings us to a place where…
++
We are delighting in the word… our hope is in it… and we know true love for it..
++
SO YES… WE OPEN OUR BIBLES… AND WE WANT TO LEARN SOMETHINGS… Because, in the learning… there is delight… there is hope… there is love..
++
But today… if you want to… you can learn… -BUT THAT’S NOT GOING TO BE MY INTENTION WITH THIS PASSAGE…
++
Today… I want you to sit back and be utterly amazed at the grace of God.
++
When you visit Niagra Falls… you might read some plaques or take a guided tour… or you might learn that 150,000 /gal of water per second goes over the falls… - you might get some history…
++
But all of that knowledge pales in comparison to the amazement of what you are looking at.... the sounds… the spray of the water… the power… it’s awesome.
++
The same for the Grand Canyon… Any of that information you take in… hides away in a corner of your brain as you are utterly blown away by the view which is before you.
++
There is information in today’s passage.
++
There are verbs to parse and doctrines to affirm..
++
But more than that… THERE IS A TRUTH HERE… THAT CHALLENGES OUR ABILITY TO CONTAIN IT.
++
There is a truth here that confounds our reason and totally destroys our sense of logic… and justice.
++
And it’s truly incredible.
++

I did a lot of reading before hand… I wanted to understand what I was going into…
++
But the facts didn’t do it justice… The experiences were not always, what I would consider good.

++

++
It is a message of unparalleled grace.
It is a demonstration of something so confounding… and so unlikely… that we might be tempted… to change it… to warp it… to make it into an idea which is more accessible to us..
++
Some do… just that.
But I hope that will not be our experience today.

Heb 10.1
See what this is saying here?
Sacrifices were continually offered… but they were merely a shadow of what was to come.
++
They were the form, but they were not the substance.. THAT’S WHAT THE LAW WAS… in many ways, it projected a perfection that man was unable to meet.
++
People drew near with their sacrifices…but after leaving the temple… and after having a lustful thought.. or having a prideful look… their sacrifice was suddenly null and void to their benefit.
++
So… they had to come back again… with another sacrifice… They weren’t cleansed.
They did not overcome their sin.
++
SLIDE 9
Heb 10:3-
++
For centuries, mankind had to learn this lesson.
Nothing that they could do on their own would wipe away sin.
NOTHING.
The sacrifice would be a temporary covering… But that’s it… IT WAS ONLY TEMPORARY.
++
SLIDE 10
Heb 10:5-
++
God doesn’t want a disobedient people to continue paying their sacrifices to Him.
He wants obedience.
That’s what He desires..
++
God knew from the beginning, that humanity was not capable of this desirable obedience....
But humanity did not know this.
They had to learn the hard way…
++
ISN’T THAT HOW IT ALWAYS IS.... we humans… always have to learn the hard way.
++
You and I… we live on this side of the cross… and we have learned this lesson.
++
We cannot please God in our flesh.
We cannot meet His demands for perfection.
We can not give him obedience so that He can look upon us and say that HE is pleased.
++
But He wants to be pleased with us.
He does not desire sacrifice… HE DESIRES OBEDIENCE.
++
But we can’t give to God what He desires.

++
back to today’s passage… it says:
++
says:… “while we were still weak”.
++
This doesn’t speak of physical weakness… this speaks of moral weakness.
++
This is the state that God finds each of us in..
++
We are a people who are morally incapable of pleasing God… and yet, He focuses the most incredible mission… with the most valuable investment… onto… us!!!
++
Why?
++
Because God wants to be pleased with us.
++
Think about that for a moment.
-God wants to be pleased with the lives and actions of His children.
That’s what He wants.
AND WE CAN’T GIVE IT TO HIM.
++
He loves us.
And in spite of what we are able to do… HIS LOVE DRIVES HIM TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN OUR MORAL WEAKNESS… -and the perfection that He requires.
++
SO HE DOESN’T WAIT TILL WE DESERVE IT… Because that time, will never come.
