- For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Easter is a time of celebration.
It is interesting to me how many people honor the Resurrection like it was only a funeral.
Let me tell you something Jesus put the fun in funeral because He overcame death, He overcame sin, and He overcame Hell.
He did die on the Cross as a sacrifice for our sins but three days later He rose from the dead.
Jesus died and He lived to tell about it!
As I was preparing for this Resurrection Sunday message I was going to speak on the Precious Blood of Jesus.
For a few weeks I could feel the Holy Spirit leading me in a whole different direction He was stirring something inside of me and one night I was talking with Brian Cessna and he said you know God is so wonderful: When Brian said that something leapt inside of me.
I felt God say “remind my people how Wonderful I am”.
When He said that there was no pride in His words it was simply a statement of the obvious.
v Jesus has many names: Savior, Messiah, Redeemer, Healer, Comforter, Provider, Salvation, Deliverer, Way Maker.
God is the Alpha the Omega, Creator.
Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.
In all my years as a Christian and in all my years of listening to sermons never have I once heard a message on the name Wonderful.
Wonderful is not just a description of who He is and what He does - His name is Wonderful.
1) Wonderful means
Inspiring, delightful, magnificent, superb, awesome, astonishing (it takes your breath away because what you are seeing is so worth admiring.)
Wonderful is extremely good.
Wonderful is something transcendent and beyond the common; something that is miles beyond the ordinary.
It means something altogether unlike anything else.
When you look at the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls or El Capitan in Yellowstone National park you know you are seeing something wonderful.
When David killed Goliath, when Peter walked on water or Moses parted the Red Sea so Israel could cross over.
You are learning about something simply magnificent.
There are moments in the life of every Christians walk that when you press in and get to know Him that you realize how extraordinary our God is.
He is not Mr. Wonderful he simply is Wonderful.
Just like you can stand and be overwhelmed by the immensity of the Grand Canyon when you are in the presence of God you realize the enormity of who He is and the capacity that He is can never be grasped by the human mind.
We used to sing a song- I stand in awe of you
You are beautiful beyond description
Too marvelous for words
Too wonderful for comprehension
Like nothing ever seen or heard
Who can grasp Your infinite wisdom
Who can fathom the depth of Your love
You are beautiful beyond description
Majesty enthroned above
Chorus
And I stand I stand in awe of You
I stand I stand in awe of You
Holy God to whom all praise is due
I stand in awe of You
2) His love for us is Wonderful
- But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
2) His love for us is Wonderful
For God so loved the world that He gave His only son.
The love of God is so extravagant that it can leave you speechless.
Of all the needs that people have is the need to be loved.
We don’t need to be admired, we don’t need to be “successful” we don’t need to be liked by everyone.
All of us were created with the need to be loved.
The Bible says that there is no greater love than for someone to die for somebody else.
We hear songs about the greatest love of all but not once do they mention the selflessness of giving up everything so that the other person can live.
The greatest love loses not just themselves but their life so that someone can gain theirs.
This is what makes what God and His son Jesus did so wonderful.
This Resurrection Sunday I pray that all of us have the life changing revelation of the love of God.
The love of God is so accepting, so selfless, so complete so all encompassing that it transforms all who are the object of His affection.
The love of a spouse the love or a child will fill you with joy but it can never make you whole it can never make you complete.
The love of God makes us perfect, healed, and whole.
Paul prayed for the saints to realize the enormity of God’s love for them.
It is the love of God that fills us.
Not anything else.
It is realizing that nothing can separate you from His love.
What a powerful realization.
- that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
It is the love of God that fills us.
Not anything else.
It is realizing that nothing can separate you from His love.
What a powerful realization.
He is wonderful
- For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
He is wonderful
2) He is wonderful in the beauty of Holiness.
God is entirely pure, righteous and clean.
In Him there is no spot or blemish.
He IS Truth.
There is no falsehood or wickedness in Him.
He is able to cleanse us from sin because He has never missed the mark.
1 - This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
In Isaiah chapter 6 the prophet was given a glimpse of heaven and the Lord sitting on His throne.
Around Him were angels crying Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord of Hosts the whole earth is filled with His glory.
Immediately Isaiah cried out woe is me for I am a man of unclean lips who dwells among people with unclean lips.
An angel came to him with a coal from the altar and touched his lips purged his iniquity or sin.

The holiness of God is wonderful.
He is so clean and pure and we are not.
A revelation of this will leave us undone and in awe.
Only a holy God can make us holy.
