George Washington Proclaimation

"By the President of the United States of America. A proclamation: Whereas, it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, & humbly to implore His protection & favor, - and

"Whereas, Both Houses of Congress have by their joint committee requested me `to recommend to the people of the United States a day of Public Thanksgiving & Prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God. . .’

"Now, Therefore I do recommend & assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great & glorious Being who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. . ."

1 Chronicles 29:16 NCV
16 Lord our God, we have gathered all this to build your Temple for worship to you. But everything has come from you; everything belongs to you.

FOUR THINGS WE CAN BE THANKFUL FOR THIS THANKSGIVING

1. I AM THANKFUL TO GOD FOR THE GRACE HE’S SHOWN TO ME

Ephesians 2:8 NCV
8 I mean that you have been saved by grace through believing. You did not save yourselves; it was a gift from God.

Grace is Everything God does for you even though you don’t deserve it.

Psalm 103:2–11 The Living Bible
2 Yes, I will bless the Lord and not forget the glorious things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins. He heals me. 4 He ransoms me from hell. He surrounds me with loving-kindness and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things! My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! 6 He gives justice to all who are treated unfairly. 7 He revealed his will and nature to Moses and the people of Israel. 8 He is merciful and tender toward those who don’t deserve it; he is slow to get angry and full of kindness and love. 9 He never bears a grudge, nor remains angry forever. 10 He has not punished us as we deserve for all our sins, 11 for his mercy toward those who fear and honor him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

2. I AM THANKFUL TO GO FOR THE PLAN HE HAS FOR ME

Jeremiah 29:11 The Living Bible
11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

3. I AM THANKFUL TO GOD FOR THE HOME IN HEAVEN HE’S PREPARED FOR ME.

2 Corinthians 5:1 NLT
1 For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.

The Bible says you were created in God’s Image which means you have a SOUL.

What will Heaven be Like?

REUNITED

REWARDED

REASSIGNED

RELEASED

HEAVEN was made for you and I.

1 Peter 1:4–6 The Living Bible
4 And God has reserved for his children the priceless gift of eternal life; it is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And God, in his mighty power, will make sure that you get there safely to receive it because you are trusting him. It will be yours in that coming last day for all to see. 6 So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though the going is rough for a while down here.

4. I AM THANKFUL TO GOD FOR THE CHANGES HE’S MAKING IN ME.

God loves you just the way your, but He loves you too much to let you stay the way you are.

Philippians 2:13 NLT
13 For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
2 Corinthians 3:18 The Living Bible
18 But we Christians have no veil over our faces; we can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him.

WAYS WE CAN GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD

1. WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD BY SINGING.

Psalm 147:7 The Living Bible
7 Sing out your thanks to him; sing praises to our God, accompanied by harps.

2. WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD BY SERVING THE LORD.

Hebrews 12:28 The Living Bible
28 Since we have a Kingdom nothing can destroy, let us please God by serving him with thankful hearts and with holy fear and awe.

All work is God’s work if it’s done in the name of Jesus

3. WE GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD BY GIVING TO THE LORD

Psalm 50:14 NCV
14 Give an offering to show thanks to God. Give God Most High what you have promised.

The Level of My Giving Shows my Level of My Gratitude.

At Thanksgiving We Need to Review My Commitments.

At Thanksgiving We Need to Renew My Commitments.

At Thanksgiving We Need to Out-do My Commitments.

4. WE GIVE THANKS TO THE LORD BY TELLING OTHERS ABOUT JESUS.

Isaiah 12:4 The Living Bible
4 In that wonderful day you will say, “Thank the Lord! Praise his name! Tell the world about his wondrous love. How mighty he is!”

Tell Someone What God has done in your life!
