Introduction
Its interesting to me to see that 4 of the last 5 are short and sweet
This were we think of the “Thou shall not” - the negative commands.
God has revealed how we are to relate to Him and to our earthly parents.
This command is the ultimate basis of how we relate to each other.
Even though the command is short and sweet the implications aren’t.
They are complex and messy.
There is a pardox
LONDON — Charlie Gard, who turns 11 months old on Tuesday, was born with an extremely rare genetic disease.
He is blind and deaf, and he cannot breathe or move on his own.
He suffers from persistent epileptic seizures.
Now the British infant is at the center of a global debate, drawing in the Vatican and President Trump, over what medical treatment, if any, he is entitled to receive, and who decides — his family, his doctors or the courts.
“These terrible decisions have to be made all the time,” said Jonathan D. Moreno, a professor of ethics at the University of Pennsylvania.
“It is very unusual for a case like this to explode on the global stage.
They raise difficult moral and ethical questions.”
The London hospital that is treating Charlie has asked permission to remove him from life support.
His parents want to take him to the United States, where they believe an experimental treatment has a chance — however remote — of prolonging his life, even though the disease has no cure.
Three courts in Britain agreed with the hospital, as did the European Court of Human Rights, which last week rejected a last-ditch appeal by Charlie’s parents.
This is a moral and ethical issue at heart.
It goes to the very foundation of how we live our lives.
This
In many the ways the how we value others lives determines how valuable our lives are.
In the beginning God created.......
Genesis is not only the beginning of the Bible, but it is the beginning of our moral and ethical standards as Christians.
Genesis is not only the beginning of the Bible, but it is the beginning of our moral and ethical standards as Christians.
If we don’t hold to this starting point, everything becomes negotiable.
What I mean by this is everything is changeable.
There is no anchor for life and the decisions that we must make
But if we start from this point we must next the next step to say that.....
All life is valuable
This command means human life.
Not that other life isn’t but no other animal is created in the image of God.
We must distinguish between the two.
We don’t elevate one to the other.
If we elevate other life to that of humanity, we devalue both.
If we say that other live is worth the same protection as human life, than we have the same discretion to determine who is worth living.
How we treat the young and the old will determine how long we last as a society.
How we treat the young and the old will determine how long we last as a society.
All Human Life is to be Protected
All life should be protected
All Life is to be Protected
This is were it gets messy
