Introduction

Exodus 20:13 ESV
“You shall not murder.
Its interesting to me to see that 4 of the last 5 are short and sweet
This were we think of the “Thou shall not” - the negative commands.
God has revealed how we are to relate to Him and to our earthly parents.
This command is the ultimate basis of how we relate to each other.
Even though the command is short and sweet the implications aren’t.
They are complex and messy.
There is a pardox
LONDON — Charlie Gard, who turns 11 months old on Tuesday, was born with an extremely rare genetic disease. He is blind and deaf, and he cannot breathe or move on his own. He suffers from persistent epileptic seizures.
Now the British infant is at the center of a global debate, drawing in the Vatican and President Trump, over what medical treatment, if any, he is entitled to receive, and who decides — his family, his doctors or the courts.
“These terrible decisions have to be made all the time,” said Jonathan D. Moreno, a professor of ethics at the University of Pennsylvania. “It is very unusual for a case like this to explode on the global stage. They raise difficult moral and ethical questions.”
The London hospital that is treating Charlie has asked permission to remove him from life support. His parents want to take him to the United States, where they believe an experimental treatment has a chance — however remote — of prolonging his life, even though the disease has no cure.
Three courts in Britain agreed with the hospital, as did the European Court of Human Rights, which last week rejected a last-ditch appeal by Charlie’s parents.
This is a moral and ethical issue at heart. It goes to the very foundation of how we live our lives.
This
In many the ways the how we value others lives determines how valuable our lives are.

In the beginning God created.......

Genesis 1:1 ESV
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis is not only the beginning of the Bible, but it is the beginning of our moral and ethical standards as Christians.
Genesis is not only the beginning of the Bible, but it is the beginning of our moral and ethical standards as Christians.
If we don’t hold to this starting point, everything becomes negotiable. What I mean by this is everything is changeable.
There is no anchor for life and the decisions that we must make
But if we start from this point we must next the next step to say that.....

All life is valuable

This command means human life. Not that other life isn’t but no other animal is created in the image of God.
Psalm 8:3–6 ESV
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet,
We must distinguish between the two. We don’t elevate one to the other. If we elevate other life to that of humanity, we devalue both.
If we say that other live is worth the same protection as human life, than we have the same discretion to determine who is worth living.
How we treat the young and the old will determine how long we last as a society.
How we treat the young and the old will determine how long we last as a society.

All Human Life is to be Protected

All life should be protected

All Life is to be Protected

This is were it gets messy
The Hebrew word used here is the taking of innocent life.
The implication of this is clear.
capital punishment is not prohibited by God, but is commanded by God. Christ didn’t change that.
Genesis 9:6 ESV
“Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
Matthew 5:17 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
Abortion is not an option.
Abortion is not an option.
adoption is Biblical
The manipulation of life is not acceptable.
determining the eye color, the physical characteristics, etc...
The protection of senior citizens is commanded.
Euthanasia is not an option
the painless killing of someone with an incurable illness.
medicine is called to do good, but not to do harm.
War is sometimes justified.
God has given us the example for protecting Human life .
He fought the battle against sin and He has won the victory through Jesus Christ on the cross.
That which would have taken human life was defeated and we have be given eternal life.
