During a Monday night football game between the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants, one of the announcers observed that Walter Payton, the Bears’ running back, had accumulated over nine miles in career rushing yardage.

The other announcer remarked, “Yeah, and that’s with someone knocking him down every 4.6 yards!”

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Persecution is going to happen if we follow God.

Timothy has closely examined Paul.

Everyone will be persecuted.

This looks different from age to age and country to country but one thing remains the world is hostile to the Kingdom of God.

Be prepared to face hardships.

Timothy had Paul to look to and see what persevering looked like.

Now Paul is telling Timothy don’t think I am the only one, you will be as well.

It may look frightening when we look out and see the suffering but know the victory is ours.

Rebuking, Scripture can show sinners their failures, clarify the point of the mistake, and lead them to a new sense of peace and wholeness.

Provide correction, it shows us what we did that was wrong but then it helps restore us to a right relationship with Christ.

Moral training that leads to righteous living.

If we look to the scriptures we will find a system of discipline that lead to a Holy life.

Christians can receive strength for the Christian pilgrimage from two sources.

First, they can observe the lives of other believers.

Paul urged Timothy to look at his life in order to learn and apply Christian truth (vv.

10–13).

He could learn that persecution was certain (v.

He could also be reminded of divine strength and protection (v.

Even though hardship was certain, divine strength was even more pervasive.

The Scriptures also provide warning to keep Christians from wandering afield from God’s will.

Those who obey the commands and respond to the promises of Scripture can find the strength to live a life of such arresting quality that it can encourage and enlighten others.
