Dear God I come to you as humble as I know how ,asking you to speak for me and allow me to speak boldly and with conviction.
Giving you all honor and praise
Most of us are familiar with story of David and Goliath.
How David as a shepherd boy fought with Goliath the Philistine Giant.
This Goliath tall in stature , a seasoned warrior, with armor , shield , and sword.
That how this Goliath had challenged Israel to single combat instead of armed conflict and no one would take up the challenge.
That because of his prodigious size, and the accoutrements of battle, it put fear in the hearts of the Jewish soldiers.
That not even Saul the King, or any of the commanders of the army would take up the challenge.
Not even the soldiers , not even David’s brothers would take up the challenge.
Even though Saul promised the King’s daughter in marriage, and to live tax free, no one would take up the challenge.
David who was delivering food to his brother’s heard the challenge and volunteered to fight.
David volunteered and King Saul let him fight, he must have been able to see the spirit of God in Israel scripture says that the spirit of the Lord entered him.
David.
For after Samuel anointed David the King ofYou know sometimes you can see the anointing all over somebody.
You know the story.
This boy with sling and staff defeats ,the mighty Goliath with all of his stuff.
Israel the routs the Philistines and Israel is saved and the Phillistines are defeated.
ting all over somebodyThere are many people afraid to step out to face a challenge, to brave the unknown.
There are many people who refuse to move when it is time to move.
Maybe you have been that person, or maybe you are that person.
But I am so glad that when the time came, and the time to move became evident, the founders of this church were willing to move.
To face the challenge and to accept the call.
i am so glad that they saw fit to worship in the open, in a bush arbor , or anyplace that would allow them to worship God in spirit and in truth.
Somewhere they could praise God and still have dignity.
Knowing that the God they served was no respecter of person , status or color I am so glad, aren’t you glad.
we learn from David, not be afraid to step out and trust God
There are many people afraid to step out to face a challenge, to brave the unknown.
There are many people who refuse to move when it is time to move.
Maybe you have been that person, or maybe you are that person.
But I am so glad that when the time came, and the time to move became evident, the founders of this church were willing to move.

Pastor, I realize this is anniversary and all of that, and i appreciate that the David story but what does that have to do with me.
Well just like David had to face Goliath.
And the founders of this church had to face opposition and hardship.
You too will have to face some struggle in your life.
There is some heartache, some pain, some trouble you will have to face and i just want to let know that it can be done.
David faced a giant, with armor ,sword and shield, and he had only his staff and slingshot yet he was able to take the Giant out. he was able to slay Goliath because God was on his side.
tell you when you ask me , why am i preaching this , this i want you tp know that when your giant comes, you too will be able to defeat that Giant.
1.
If that giant is bringing health issues you will find that my god is a healer.
2. if it is financial then you will find that my God is a provider.
Many of us have faced that Giant and like David we have defeated that Giant.
Whether it was cancer, finance or family.
We have slain that giant , we have obtained a level of competence in our situation and we have finally have time to rest.
We can accept our congratulations and begin to enjoy the fruits of labors.
Which brings me to my second point.
Giants come back
you would expect that once you have proven yourself, that once is enough.
But victory is fleeting.
Once you have defeated the enemy that he would stay conquered.
or if I get real, you tried me once and you got yours , so I don’t expect you to come back.
but that is not how it works.
it seems that one storm leads to another.
your haters never stop hating .
And Giants never stop coming.
For if you look at the scripture that was read for you hearing we have David , no longer a boy a seasoned King and we find that the Philistines once again challenge Israel, and once again David is their champion and responds to the threat.
Once again David is confronted with a Giant.
David faced Ishbibenob (ish bi be nob) a giant with a a new sword and a spear with a ten pound head.
You see , sometimes we face similar problems , that take different solutions.
But you must take the giant seriously.
An giants come when you are not ready.
Giants come when you can least resist them
Giants come to kill steal and destroy.
or David faced Giants when he was young and then again when he was old.
when one least expects to be faced with an enemy.
But not only Ishbibenob, but their were other giants, there Saph, the brother of Goliath and then their was the six fingered , six toed giant of Gath.
You see the in David’s life the giants just kept on coming..
When David faced Ishbibenob it says he grew faint, but God had a ram in the bush and he was saved by one of his warriors Abishai.
It is good thing that when Giants come in your life somebody has your back.
And as the giants kept coming David mighty men killed the giants.
There is a giant killer
we have to realize there is agiant killer
we have to realize there is abiding favor in times of trouble
We have to accept favorover Continued trouble,
Anybody here want abiding favor
favor over trouble every day of my life.
I can imagine that the founders of Conocanary and those that followed after of have faced similar situations .
When the Giants came in their lives, i got to believe that God was in their corner.
And no matter how big the giant , God proved to be bigger .
God’s abiding favor got them through.
God is and always have been a Giant Killer
Some of you might know him as a bridge over troubled water
a way out of no way
a wheel in the middle of a wheel,
a doctor in the sickroom or a lawyer in the courtroom
Slavery was a giant that was the giant but God proved to be big faced.

And then their were the black Codes, laws that tried to force them back into a second class citizenship but God proved to be bigger.

you too will have giants , trouble and storms but you to just need to know God is bigger than your problem.

One day God sent his only begotte so to be the giant killer,
Jesus, he who is abidng favor,he who is grace and mercy.
