Giants

2 Samuel 21:15–22 AV
Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint. And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David. But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel. And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant. And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam. And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him. These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
2 samuel 21
Dear God I come to you as humble as I know how ,asking you to speak for me and allow me to speak boldly and with conviction. Giving you all honor and praise
Most of us are familiar with story of David and Goliath.
How David as a shepherd boy fought with Goliath the Philistine Giant. This Goliath tall in stature , a seasoned warrior, with armor , shield , and sword. That how this Goliath had challenged Israel to single combat instead of armed conflict and no one would take up the challenge.
That because of his prodigious size, and the accoutrements of battle, it put fear in the hearts of the Jewish soldiers. That not even Saul the King, or any of the commanders of the army would take up the challenge. Not even the soldiers , not even David’s brothers would take up the challenge. Even though Saul promised the King’s daughter in marriage, and to live tax free, no one would take up the challenge. David who was delivering food to his brother’s heard the challenge and volunteered to fight.
David volunteered and King Saul let him fight, he must have been able to see the spirit of God in Israel scripture says that the spirit of the Lord entered him. David. For after Samuel anointed David the King ofYou know sometimes you can see the anointing all over somebody.
You know the story. This boy with sling and staff defeats ,the mighty Goliath with all of his stuff. Israel the routs the Philistines and Israel is saved and the Phillistines are defeated.
ting all over somebodyThere are many people afraid to step out to face a challenge, to brave the unknown. There are many people who refuse to move when it is time to move. Maybe you have been that person, or maybe you are that person. But I am so glad that when the time came, and the time to move became evident, the founders of this church were willing to move. To face the challenge and to accept the call. i am so glad that they saw fit to worship in the open, in a bush arbor , or anyplace that would allow them to worship God in spirit and in truth. Somewhere they could praise God and still have dignity. Knowing that the God they served was no respecter of person , status or color I am so glad, aren’t you glad.
we learn from David, not be afraid to step out and trust God

Pastor, I realize this is anniversary and all of that, and i appreciate that the David story but what does that have to do with me. Well just like David had to face Goliath. And the founders of this church had to face opposition and hardship. You too will have to face some struggle in your life.
There is some heartache, some pain, some trouble you will have to face and i just want to let know that it can be done. David faced a giant, with armor ,sword and shield, and he had only his staff and slingshot yet he was able to take the Giant out. he was able to slay Goliath because God was on his side. tell you when you ask me , why am i preaching this , this i want you tp know that when your giant comes, you too will be able to defeat that Giant.
1. If that giant is bringing health issues you will find that my god is a healer.
2. if it is financial then you will find that my God is a provider.
Many of us have faced that Giant and like David we have defeated that Giant. Whether it was cancer, finance or family.
We have slain that giant , we have obtained a level of competence in our situation and we have finally have time to rest. We can accept our congratulations and begin to enjoy the fruits of labors. Which brings me to my second point.

Giants come back

you would expect that once you have proven yourself, that once is enough. But victory is fleeting.
Once you have defeated the enemy that he would stay conquered.
or if I get real, you tried me once and you got yours , so I don’t expect you to come back.
but that is not how it works.
it seems that one storm leads to another.
your haters never stop hating .
And Giants never stop coming.
For if you look at the scripture that was read for you hearing we have David , no longer a boy a seasoned King and we find that the Philistines once again challenge Israel, and once again David is their champion and responds to the threat. Once again David is confronted with a Giant.
David faced Ishbibenob (ish bi be nob) a giant with a a new sword and a spear with a ten pound head. You see , sometimes we face similar problems , that take different solutions. But you must take the giant seriously. An giants come when you are not ready.
Giants come when you can least resist them
Giants come to kill steal and destroy. or David faced Giants when he was young and then again when he was old. when one least expects to be faced with an enemy.
But not only Ishbibenob, but their were other giants, there Saph, the brother of Goliath and then their was the six fingered , six toed giant of Gath. You see the in David’s life the giants just kept on coming..
When David faced Ishbibenob it says he grew faint, but God had a ram in the bush and he was saved by one of his warriors Abishai. It is good thing that when Giants come in your life somebody has your back.
And as the giants kept coming David mighty men killed the giants.

There is a giant killer

we have to realize there is agiant killer
we have to realize there is abiding favor in times of trouble
We have to accept favorover Continued trouble,
Anybody here want abiding favor
favor over trouble every day of my life.
I can imagine that the founders of Conocanary and those that followed after of have faced similar situations . When the Giants came in their lives, i got to believe that God was in their corner. And no matter how big the giant , God proved to be bigger . God’s abiding favor got them through. God is and always have been a Giant Killer
Some of you might know him as a bridge over troubled water
a way out of no way
a wheel in the middle of a wheel,
a doctor in the sickroom or a lawyer in the courtroom
Slavery was a giant that was the giant but God proved to be big faced. God’s abiding favor
And then their were the black Codes, laws that tried to force them back into a second class citizenship but God proved to be bigger. God’s abiding favor
Then there was the Klan, but God proved to be bigger. God’s abiding favor
Then their was Jim Crow but God proved to be bigger.God’s abiding favor
you too will have giants , trouble and storms but you to just need to know God is bigger than your problem. God’s abiding favor.
One day God sent his only begotte so to be the giant killer,
Jesus, he who is abidng favor,he who is grace and mercy.
Jesus is your favor.
you see jesus to had giants in his life. And the giants kept coming
He faced temptation of the Devil. And you would think that after defeating the enemy then he would have any further giants any other problems.
But the giants kept coming.
he had pharisees and the Sadducees questioned him You see the giants kept coming
he had storms rolling up on him! You see the giants kept coming
he had the jewish leadership hounding him. You see the giants kept coming
he had the cross. You see the giants kept coming
And the death sought him. You see the giants kept coming
But Jesus defeated temptation. For man does not live by bread alone!
He defeated the Pharisees and the Sadducees
let he who without sin cast the first stone.
He defeated the storm
Peace be Still
And then he did what
Abraham the patriarch, the father of faith couldn’t do
He did what Moses the lawgiver couldn’t do
he did what Joshua the general couldn’t do
He did what Gideon the warrior couldn’t do
he did what David the psalmist, aman after God’s on heart could n’t do
he did what samuel, Isaiah and the other prophets couldn’t do it
he did what John the Baptist , the voice in the wilderness could n’t do
HE DEFEATED THE GIANT that had won ever fight, he defeated the giant who thought he was unbeatable, he defeated the giant who had claimed so many victims
he went down in a borrowed tomb but he got up, early Sunday morning ,
that rose of sherin got up
rhat lily of the valley got up
that lamb of God got up
that prince of peace got up
he got up with all power and defeated that last giant death.
Oh death where is thy victory , oh grave where is thy sting
Giants keep coming , storms keep coming but as long as I have favor, his grace and his mercy.
Somebody say favor
Somebody say grace
somebody say mercy
come on Giants
because I got Jesus
And every knee shall bow,
sickness heal, hater fail, for no weapon formed against me shall prosper.
