There is no other love that last forever other than the everlasting love of God. Marriages collapsing, families breaking apart, friendships are shattered, churches are split and nations are divided because of love that doesn't last. To be able to love forever, you must first have it, before you can share it.

Text

1 Corinthians 13:8 NCV
Love never ends. There are gifts of prophecy, but they will be ended. There are gifts of speaking in different languages, but those gifts will stop. There is the gift of knowledge, but it will come to an end.
Apostle Paul compared Love with the gifts of the Holy Spirit

Paul founded the church at Corinth between AD 50 and 52
The Christians at Corinth are proud & lively
They are gifted but quarrelsome
There was rivalry between the leaders
They also argue about the value of their spiritual gifts
Believers in Corinth emphasized the gift of tongues as a sign of Christ dwelling with someone
And so to clarify matters, Paul wrote this letter from Ephesus about a year or two later...
On this part of his letter he deals with the superiority of love over any spiritual gifts
Paul said that all these gifts may end but love never will..

1 Corinthians 13:13 GW
So these three things remain: faith, hope, and love. But the best one of these is love.
Therefore, love is the true sign of someone who follows Christ
Love is the true sign of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit
John 13:35 GW
Everyone will know that you are my disciples because of your love for each other.”
It is not the gift of tongues, the gift of prophecy or gift of knowledge that will show who are the true followers of Christ
But it is our love for each other that will show that we are disciples of Jesus

Yahweh’s Love is Everlasting

Jeremiah 31:3 GW
The Lord appeared to me in a faraway place and said, “I love you with an everlasting love. So I will continue to show you my kindness.
Greek word for everlasting is ô-lãm עוֹלָם (pronounced as o-lam), meaning eternal
Everything fades away
That’s why we have those soaring divorce statistics that I’ve shown you two weeks ago
Families breaking apart
friendships are shattered, churches are split and nations are divided
Friendships are shattered
Churches are split
Nations are divided
It is only God’s love that is everlasting
Greek word for everlasting is ô-lãm עוֹלָם (pronounced as o-lam), meaning eternal
But, How can we love eternally?
First,

You Must Have It, Before You Can Share It

Unless you have it, you cannot share it
It is only by receiving the Love of God that we may be able to share it
We cannot give, what we are not willing to receive
How do we receive the Everlasting Love of God?
John 3:16 GW
God loved the world this way: He gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not die but will have eternal life.
According to some theologians, is the foundational verse of the entire Bible and it says...
John 3:16 CEV
God loved the people of this world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who has faith in him will have eternal life and never really die.
Faith in Jesus gives us eternal life, eternal love...
The very first thing that we can learn from the way how God loves is “self-sacrifice
God gave His one and only Son
There can never be any other form of self sacrifice greater than that
Willingness to put the other person, your spouse, your children, your friends always ahead of yourself

You Must Put Others Before Yourself

Philippians 2:4–5 GNB
And look out for one another’s interests, not just for your own. The attitude you should have is the one that Christ Jesus had:
When onboard a plane and the gas masks dropped down, why are we told to put the mask to ourselves first before others?…
Well, because you have the other person’s safety & survival in your mind when you try to help yourself in order to help the other person
Ego and pride are the greatest killer of any relationship
The “I, Me and Myself” Generation should be replaced by “Us, We and Ours”...
Ironically, we are living in a very challenging generation where most people are just concerned of their own
Everyday is just like a race to success or stability
People are unmindful of what is important around them
Losing sight of what truly matters in life
Unless we learn how to put others ahead of us, we cannot love eternally
Story of my “self-sacrificing” last & only wife. Our marriage could have not last this far, if weren’t for her willingness to sacrifice herself..
Thirdly,

You Must be Completely Sincere

Romans 12:9 GNB
Love must be completely sincere. Hate what is evil, hold on to what is good.
Love must be without hypocrisy
A curmudgeon on British publishing finally decided to retire at age 70.
Curmudgeon is a crusty, ill-tempered and usually old man
Associates were joyous at the prospects of his leaving so they throw him the usual dinner party & elaborate praises
When it was his turn to respond, the old gentleman got up and said.. “I had no idea that I was held in such esteem. I shall stay on with you guys for 10 more years…”
Love must be without hypocrisy
Finally,

You Must Show Respect for One Another

Romans 12:10 GNB
Love one another warmly as Christian brothers and sisters, and be eager to show respect for one another.
You can’t buy respect
You can’t demand for respect
You can’t beg for respect
You can only “earn” respect
What you sow is what you reap
Galatians
Galatians 6:7 GNB
Do not deceive yourselves; no one makes a fool of God. People will reap exactly what they sow.
My story about how I am trying to earn my children’s respect

Prayer

Church will you pray with me?… Follow after me and let’s pray this prayer together...
Oh most loving heavenly Father.. You are the most high God.. You are the only source of everlasting love.. You are the source of all grace.. In our weakness, you give us strength.. In our sorrow, you give us joy.. In our worries, you give us assurance.. In our wickedness, you give us forgiveness.. In our pains, you give us healing.. In our failures, you give us second chances.. Endow upon us your everlasting love.. that we may be able to share them to others.. teach us to put others before ourselves.. help us to always be sincere..and train us to remain respectful at all times..
Now let me pray for you...
