1. Expect the Unexpected

(v. 1) Jessie did not expect…Samuel did not expect
We place human limitations on God when He is able.

Matthew 3:9

9 and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

3 And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

2 Corinthians 9:8

8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

Ephesians 6:11

11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

2. Hold Nothing Back

(v. 11)Jessie lined up all of his kids…one right after another, but he held back the youngest.
When we hold back from God we risk failure.
God is not looking for people who balance risk...
He is not looking for people who hold back certain areas of their lives, of their finances, or their families, or their circumstances…as people of God we are to hold nothing back…we risk it all, for Him and for His glory…the gospel teaches a message of reckless abandonment…we abandon ourselves and live for Him, holding nothing back.

3. Don’t be surprised with God using the least.

(v. 11) Jessie says, “I’ve got another son, but it ain’t him.
But God would decide otherwise. Don’t be surprised with God using the least.
Don’t doubt the power of God when it comes to His purpose for you.

4. Always trust God to do what doesn’t make sense

Don’t loose sight of the wonder, of His presence, of His power, or of His work…or your calling.
