INTRODUCTION:

The King has provided His knights with everything that is needed to win the war:
A. The Armor- (The ability to protect ourselves)
B. The Sword-Ephesians 6:17b (The ability to fight)
C. Instructions on how to fight the war- (The ability to win the war)
2. gives three instructions to the knight of God.
A. Pray always.
B. Be watchful for all the saints.
C. Open your mouth boldly.
1. Paul asked the Church at Ephesus to pray three things for him:
A. That God would tell him what to speak.
B. That he may open his mouth boldly.
C. That he may speak as he ought to speak.
BODY:
1. OPEN YOUR MOUTH BOLDLY.
A. That God would tell him what to speak.
Eph 6.18
1. Being that Paul was an apostle, he was asking the church to pray that he be given miraculous inspiration.
Jn 14.
A. Paul asked the church at Ephesus to pray this, because he understood the necessity of teaching God’s Word properly.
B. The church still has a need to pray for utterance to be given to us today, because God’s Word still needs to be taught properly.

However, the church no longer has a need to pray for miraculous inspiration, because we have the completed Word of God.
2. The church of the first century did not have the completed Word of God, so they needed the apostles to guide them.
3. The apostles and the other inspired writers of the New Testament recorded the Scriptures to guide us today on how to conduct ourselves.
4. Today, we do have the completed Word of God; all we need to do is go to it for guidance.
2. We still need to pray for God to tell us what to speak, just differently than Paul.
A. Jesus directly chose Paul to be the apostle to the Gentiles, appearing to him on the road to Damascus.
B. Peter would acknowledge Paul’s inspiration as well.
2 Pt 3.14-15
1. Paul was given the wisdom to write the Scriptures by his prayer and by the prayers of the church.
2. Some of the things Paul would write in his letters would be hard to understand.
3. Therefore, we need to pray for wisdom to understand.
3. God tells us what to speak today through His Word.
A. He does not whisper in our ears or give us some ambiguous feeling.

When Christ died the Old Law passed away.
1. Oftentimes, we hear people talking about their feelings or witnessing.
2. Jesus had promised to build His Church and now it was here.

2. He does not give us what to say by something that changes as often as our own feelings.
3. but because the old law was dead they would need a new law.
B. That he may open his mouth boldly.

We need to understand that a closed mouth does not help the lost.
2. If we, as the church, keep our mouths closed, the lost will remain lost.

You might say, ‘If I open my mouth and teach the gospel the way that it is meant to be taught, then people will persecute me.’
A. But do we persuade men or God?
1.
We need to remember that there will be no cowards in heaven.
2. Remember what Paul told the Galatians.
3. If we want the church to grow, we must be willing to tell the world what it doesn’t want to hear.

C. That he may speak as he ought to speak.
1.
We have a responsibility to open our mouths.
2. Paul said he preached the gospel because necessity was laid upon him.
A. Why did Paul write this?
1.
It was because he knew whether he was comfortable with it or not, it was entrusted to him.
1 Cor 9.17
B. The Word of God has been entrusted to all of us.
1.
We don’t have the option of keeping our mouths closed; it should burn inside our bones when we try to contain it.
2. We don’t have the option of keeping our mouths closed, because Jesus commanded us to speak up.
3. We don’t have the option of keeping our mouths closed, because Paul, by inspiration, commanded us to speak up.
4. We don’t have the option of keeping our mouths closed, because Peter, by inspiration, commanded us to speak up.
CONCLUSION:
1. Are you praying and asking others to pray:
A. That God tells you what to speak?
1. Do you understand God does this through His Word today?
B. That I may open my mouth boldly?
1. Do you understand what it means to open your mouth boldly?
C. That I may speak as I ought to speak?
2. Do you understand the necessity of speaking as you ought to speak?
