John 1:1-5
Context
The Gospel of John was written to persuade people to believe in Jesus (20:30–31).
The opening verses declare that Jesus is God, stressing his unique relationship with God the Father.
The book focuses on seven of Jesus’ signs (miracles), to show his divinity.
Jesus called people to believe in him, promising eternal life.
He proved he could give life by raising Lazarus (ch.
11) and by his own death and resurrection.
John features Christ’s seven “I am” statements, his encounters with Nicodemus and the Samaritan woman, his Upper Room teachings and washing of the disciples’ feet (chs.
13–16), and his high priestly prayer (ch.
17).
It includes the most well-known summary of the gospel (3:16).
The author was probably the apostle John, writing about A.D. 85.
So that they will believe
It is as you read the gospel of John that you see that the God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are at work in unity, more than that as one because he is one.
It is as you read the gospel of John that you see that the God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are at work in unity, more than that as one because he is one.
WE as mere humans limited by human thinking and understanding find it difficult to get our heads around this concept, we cannot truly understand this concept of unity and God three but one.
These are deep theological questions that we will only really truly experience when we meet Jesus Christ our wonderful saviour.
When I was in bible college in 1994,95.96,
we had a strategy for our theological exams.
Don’t choose the trinity questions.
Choose something else anything else but trinity.
It was a difficult one to answer and you could slip up so easily, accidentally say the wrong thing because we can’t put the right expression from a very difficult subject.
In fact the trinity is not mentioned in the scriptures but the concept of the trinity of God is discovered through the passages and pages of the bible.
Theology, the science of God was introduced because people began to want to explain what their experience was with God.
Theology was introduced to support their belief and research further that what they believed was right and true.
To create a theology there had to be a least three supporting contextual scriptural basis.
