Introduction

The trinity

Key Text

Explain and discuss the concept and Theology of the Trinity

What we the purpose of the gospel of John?

Read John 20:30-31
John 1:1–5 NIV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
John 1:1-5
Context

The Gospel of John was written to persuade people to believe in Jesus (20:30–31). The opening verses declare that Jesus is God, stressing his unique relationship with God the Father. The book focuses on seven of Jesus’ signs (miracles), to show his divinity. Jesus called people to believe in him, promising eternal life. He proved he could give life by raising Lazarus (ch. 11) and by his own death and resurrection. John features Christ’s seven “I am” statements, his encounters with Nicodemus and the Samaritan woman, his Upper Room teachings and washing of the disciples’ feet (chs. 13–16), and his high priestly prayer (ch. 17). It includes the most well-known summary of the gospel (3:16). The author was probably the apostle John, writing about A.D. 85.

So that they will believe
It is as you read the gospel of John that you see that the God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are at work in unity, more than that as one because he is one.
It is as you read the gospel of John that you see that the God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are at work in unity, more than that as one because he is one.
WE as mere humans limited by human thinking and understanding find it difficult to get our heads around this concept, we cannot truly understand this concept of unity and God three but one.
These are deep theological questions that we will only really truly experience when we meet Jesus Christ our wonderful saviour.
When I was in bible college in 1994,95.96, we had a strategy for our theological exams. Don’t choose the trinity questions. Choose something else anything else but trinity.
It was a difficult one to answer and you could slip up so easily, accidentally say the wrong thing because we can’t put the right expression from a very difficult subject.
In fact the trinity is not mentioned in the scriptures but the concept of the trinity of God is discovered through the passages and pages of the bible.
Theology, the science of God was introduced because people began to want to explain what their experience was with God. Theology was introduced to support their belief and research further that what they believed was right and true. To create a theology there had to be a least three supporting contextual scriptural basis.
In the gospel of John
We see Jesus its purpose
John 20:30–31 NIV
Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
John 20:30-31
John spends much of the time writing of Jesus Miracles, he goes to great lengths to reveal that Jesus is the Son of God and is fully divine, that He performs incredible miracles that can only come from God.
Jesus actualy as the Christ gives a greater revelation of Himself and of God, than of the synoptic gospels. Matt, Mark, Luke
There are the “I am’s of Christ”
The work of the Holy Spirit
The Fatherhoood of God
John records 8 miracles of Chrsit that proves his Divinity
It was written so, that you may belieive that Jesus is the Messian the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Jesus revealed as the Word of God

The Word of God is creative, it speaks into being, it has power. This word is not only with God, it is God who speaks.
The Word is active, alive, sharp, it penetrates between bone and marrow it divides between soul and spirit.
The word is transformational
Gods Word in powerful in creation, it is powerful in judgement, it is powerful in Christian living. Here we find healing, restoration, wholeness, forgiveness, we find grace.
The Word of God is passive if all we do is read it, but it is at work when we PROCLAIM it , and DECLARE IT.
Discuss ways in which you can declare the Word or give testimony of declaration breakthrough?............................
IT needs to be spoken out to release the creative power.

Spoken Word-The Declaration

Discuss these scriptures, , , , 2:16.................................................................
We, in our humanity need to bring our lives in alignment to God’s word. As we speak it, we believe it, we put faith to it to Jesus, He performs what it was sent to do, this declaration has power to change the atmosphere of our homes, our lives, our situations and our ministries.
Hebrews 4:12 NIV
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
Revelation 1:16 NIV
In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
Revelation 2:12 NIV
“To the angel of the church in Pergamum write: These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.
Revelation 2:16 NIV
Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
There is something about the Word, the spoken Word of God.
It penetrates, it brings truth, It is Jesus Himself revealed to us by the Holy Spirit making the Word of God Alive and active and sharp

Illustration

How do we connect with God? Through Nature, through cause, in worship, in the Word of God, through relationships.................................
There are two main ways that connect me to God.
One is the Word, I sense a closeness with God as I read the Word, I sense that Jesus is revealed to me.
He comfort, leads, counsells, instructs me, corrects me through the written Word, like it was Jesus speaking right at me.
Secondly-Its in the outdoors in nature, by the lake or waterways, in the mountains, in the bush, viewing a sunset or sunrise. Being with animals. I sense that my creator is revealed to me in those moments.
I believe I have a connection with God. You may call me a sensate. I love Gods creativity, His beautiful, delightful handy work.
Therefore when i read the Word, I’m partaking abiding in Christ Himself.

HERE IS THE POINT THE WORD WHICH IS FLESH AND DWELT AMONGST IS REVEALED TO US THROUGH THE PERSON OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Discuss the Holy Spirit’s purpose and work in revealing Jesus...............................................................

THESE ARE NOT SEPARATE IDENTITIES OR PERSONS THEY ARE ONE.

YOU CANNOT HAVE THE ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER

ITS NOT EITHER, OR SITUATION, ITS NOT EVEN BOTH, ITS ALL IN ONE, AND ONE IN ALL

Conclusion

What is the new thing that the Holy Spirit is doing in your life, write down some significant things that He is doing and has done.................................................................................................................................................................................................
Isaiah 43:18–21 NIV
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.
In the scriptures the OT, there is a proclamation of the coming of the Messiah, we see God’s hand on his people to bring about his purposes and plans.
In every page and every book of the bible God’s plan, his son Jesus is revealed.

How is the Word creative and powerful?

I am healed in Jesus name

The Word is a Proclamation and a Declaration of faith and believing.

Discuss how the Word and its declaration is alive?..............................................................
As we declare its truth, we begin to believe and our faith aligns with it.
No longer passive but alive.

Pray for one another that they will experience a fresh touch of God and that the Word, Jesus will be made alive in them beyond what they have previously experienced............

Lets PROCLAIM the Lord Jesus Christ
Its in our proclamation that we identify with the Word of God that we believe it.
It then begins to perform what it was sent to do.
Creative
Healing
Wholeness
Life
Peace
Saves
It is evangelistic
