PRAY
This series has been focused on how our lives tend to “suck the life out of us” at times.
How are we to live in this and experience the resurrection.
God’s word tells us that in Christ we will have life and life to the full.
Well how does an empty grave do that?
How does the resurrection change our lives?
Running on empty is a reality today.
Question from Easter: What difference does Jesus and the resurrection make in this life?
-----
Physically drained can be from
Lack of rest, poor diet, or a lack of exercise.
These have obvious fixes and solutions; get some rest, eat better, get our and exercise to build some stamina.
There we are done, let’s pray and go home.
Actually we can’t do that because there is what I call a silent emptier that I want to talk to you about today.
Stress
Volunteer
She wanted to react…in fact she did react
But then as she thought it out, it made sense of it...
When stress comes on, if we don’t run from it, but we stay in the situation and understand what is happening, we can actually manage our stress.
The problem is, we often don’t take the time to process it and we simply react to it.
Today I hope to encourage us all to process our stress and not just react to it.
How the things that stress us can turn into things that make us curious.
The effects of stress
Stress effects the chemicals in our body, particularly adrenaline and cortizol.
This leads to a tensing of Muscles.
Our digestive system shuts down causing all sorts of issues.
Our heart rate increases and blood vessels tighten.
Our breathing gets faster.
None of these were designed to operate this way as normal.
They are good for us in fight or flight modes, but not every day living.

Reducing the stress in our lives is a matter of spiritual maturity, of growing closer to God.
That’s how God worked through his most stressful season, and I believe this is how he wants to lead each of us through ours.
Reducing the stress in our lives is a matterof spiritual maturity, of growign closer to GOd.
Just like Elijah didWith spiritual ma
There are all sorts of stresses in our life and there would be no way to talk about them all, so I’ll talk about two of the biggest.
Two that I believe touch most all people.
The things that bring most stress into our lives: Desire for Control
We were made to control....but to control ourselves.
But how often do we get frustrated because we can’t control others or our circumstances.
We get stressed out by
Control
The things that bring most stress into our lives: Desire for Perfection
What others think about us, are we smart enough, pretty enough, rich enough, good enough?
Perfection
Perfection
There is a gap between what we should be and what we actually are and usually, most everyone stresses that their gap will be known.

How faith changes things?
This is the question that we want to have answered.
How do you let go
Faith gives us confidence he will deliver Just as he did Jesus through the resurrection.
He will deliver
Faith gives us confidence he will deliver Just as he did Jesus through the resurrection.
When we feel the urge to control, let that be a prompting, a reminder to surrender yourself to Jesus.
Right there right then pray something like...
He will provide
The resurrection reminds us that we don’t have to stress over tthe
When we feel the urge to measure up, let that be a prompting to rejoice that Jesus has decided that you are good enough already and that we don’t have to worry because he has all we need because we don’t have enough.
So when we feel the pressure of the gap between the real and the ideal in stead of letting the pressure build, cut it off by recognizing what is going on and move closer to God, pray something like this.

I said earlier that stopping stress from running us empty was a matter of spiritual maturity.
WE saw it in Elijah…as he got near to God he found peace.
That’s what Jesus was talking about in Matthew 11:28-30
(NLT)
28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you.
Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
This yoke has two meanings.
In Jewish culture, a rabbi’s yoke referred to his teachings, his way of living out the law of God.
A particular way of carrying the burden of the law.
It got this name from the tool used by farmers to allow horses or oxen to pull a cart.
It binds the animals together so that they have to work together without fighting each other.
This is Jesus’s teaching for us.
When we are yoked with Jesus, we move in the same direction and at the same speed as the Spirit.
We move in the same direction and at the same speed as the Spirit.
Spiritual maturity is about learning to walk with Jesus, that’s what the yoke helps us to do.
When we feel stress begin to build, let us take up the yoke of Christ and move in step with the Spirit, and in doing so, we will come to live the life that Christ has promised us.
Life in fullness.
