It is a strange title for a message, isn't it? Hard Boiled Eggs, and Nuts! It is a strange title, but some here know exactly what that means. Lillian loved to laugh. She had a sense of humor that was not at others expense but was more often than not, at her expense. She would laugh at her predicament. Lillian would laugh at herself rather than others because Lillian loved people. She would rather make people laugh, rather than laugh at her.
Lil loved a certain Laurel and Hardy episode. It was actually titled "County Hospital". In that episode, Stan Laurel goes to the County Hospital to visit his friend Oliver Hardy. When Hardy asks, "What did you bring me?" Stan Laurel replies, "Hard Boiled Eggs and Nuts." "Hard boiled eggs and nuts!", Hardy exclaims, "why didn't you bring me candy?" Stan Laurel replies, "Chocolate is very expensive, and you never paid me for the last time I brought you chocolate!"

The episode continues from there. I watched the whole thing, its not very long. Laurel unintentionally causes a bunch of mishaps, that just keep causing Hardy more pain. Laurel is just trying to be a good friend and visit, yet he unintentionally he causes all this trouble for Hardy. Hardy does absolutely nothing, but his friend causes him all this grief. When the episode ends, Haedy takes this deep sigh, and you almost expect the regular Laurel and Hardy tagline. Remember that. "This another fine mess you gotten us into, Stanley", but no. Instead, an exhausted Hardy who can't seem to get any peace and quiet exclaims once again as only Hardy could "hard boiled eggs and nuts!"
I want to let you know that Adil is unable to lead on Sunday because he is sick. Also, Jayne will be out of town, and will not be singing.

Lil loved to laugh, and she loved family, and she loved people. She loved all of you so dearly. And you don't go through 90 years of life and five children without having some ups and downs. So I wonder, perhaps Lil saw in herself a bit of Hardy. When the troubles of life would happen to her, she was always able to laugh through it.

When Lil was in the hospital recently, she had a plate of scrambled eggs to eat. Daryl asked her what she had to eat. Lil looked at her with that twinkle in her eye and said, "Hard boiled eggs and nuts."
Lil loved to laugh, and she loved family. She loved all of you so dearly. And you don't go through 90 years of life and five children without having some ups and downs. So I wonder, perhaps Lil was a little like Hardy. When the troubles of life would happen to her, she was always able to laugh through it.
She could laugh at her circumstances, and she could laugh during the challenging times because she understood that life here is temporary.
The worship team will be Jowane, Lisa, and Marti. There will be an updated e-mail, when the music is in place.

So she poured her life into the importance of family. She knew life was temporary so she could pour into those she loved. And it wasn't just her real family she loved. Lil's saw her friends as her family as well. Especially, her church family. She placed such an importance on her church that well it was not just a place she belonged to or a place she went, but it was her family too.
When Lil was in the hospital, she had a plate of scrambled eggs to eat. One her sons asked her what she had to eat. Lil replied as only she could, "Hard boiled eggs and nuts."

She poured into all of you with her humor, and her love because she understood something that is so important for all of us to understand. That one day all of the trouble we face in life, it is only temporary. The pain of this loss, it is temporary. The problems we face, one day it will be gone. One day we will have peace. One day we will experience joy like no other joy.
Linda, I am so glad we chose the Bible I just read, because as I read it again ro prepare this message, it occurred to me that this is what Lillian was essentially trying to tell us by the way she lived her whole life.
Jowane will be leading, and she will be choosing the music. She will be following your suggestions. She will be working with me to choose the music because of limited talent we must choose the songs carefully. Let me explain.

See in that passage from , Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me." Lillian had placed her trust in Jesus Christ, and her life showed it! When the difficulties of life would life would come, Lillian had in view Christ. People without Christ can't look at life as temporary because for them this all there is. But Lillian knew that this was just a stopping point. That is why when she was hospitalized, she could say things like hard boiled eggs and nuts because she had the bigger picture in her mind. She had her future in heaven with Christ in view.

So she poured her life into the importance of family. And it wasn't just her biological family she loved. Lil's ability to love stretched even to her church family. She placed such an importance on her church that well it was not just a place she belonged to or a place she went, but it was her family too.
She looked forward to the day she would be in paradise to see her husband again. She clung so tightly to her church family because it was her connection to Jesus Christ!
It is challenging to play contemporary music without a guitar, bass, and drums. Contemporary music needs to be played with at least 2 main parts, the rhythm (Chording, done on piano bass, or guitar), and the melody (done on piano or guitar). Hymns are written for 1 melody line. This was the nature of the church of the past. It usually consisted of one piano or organ. Generally, with 2 piano players, Lisa can play the rhythm(Chording), and Jowane can carry the melody. With only one piano, there is no left to do the chording. Jowane is attempting to play both the melody and the chording, and one or the other gets lost. Then, our singers who usually follow the melody, may not have a melody to follow and it appears that they are lost. Or, the other happens, and the rhythm goes away, and the tempo gets lost and the vocalists and Jowane are not playing together.
She had full confidence that when the troubles of life came her way that this life was not permanent. She knew without a doubt that the pain of loss would pass because she believed the words that Jesus said.

You don't cling so tightly this church family, and keep coming here all these years just for the coffee. My jokes aren't that funny, and our bingo isn't that good, no offense Kari. I am just making a point a point that Lil came here and clung so tightly to this church because it was her connection to Christ.
Lil, also loved being at home. When she was sick, the part that bothered the most was just that she wanted to be at home.

As a result of that, you may have noticed that the music was less contemporary, and thought that we had lost the vision. The choice to play less contemporary music is not because we are unaware of the vision, it is because we no longer have the ability to produce the contemporary songs with only a single instrument. When we tried it with only one piano at Mn Adult and Teen Challenge, it was not done well at all. Some contemporary songs can be done by Jowane alone, but we need to check with her first, to avoid a problem.
Well, Lil is at home now. She has a beautiful place prepared for her by Jesus Christ himself. In Jesus says,

"My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.  You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Lillian knew she had a place in heaven. She knew that Jesus had prepared that place ahead of her and that He was waiting for her.
The vision of blended worship was successfully carried out. The vision was successful because we had additional instrumentalists. We had Cindy, as additional melody, Mark as both melody and rhythm, Lisa as melody and rhythm, and Adil on rhythm. As we lost those instruments, we lost our ability to produce those songs. Lisa and Mark could both carry the rhythm, Jowane was free to play the melody, and the drums would carry the overall rhythm. We certainly were blessed for a time. Did we realize it? Or did we look to the negative?

If you know our church family like Lillian did you know we are not perfect. We are like any family. Your own families are not perfect either. And if we had to rely on our own perfection, well we would mess things up like Laurel.

But what Lillian knew. What Lillian had confidence in, was that even though we mess things up, even though we sin and fall short of what we should do for God, Jesus Christ did what we could not do. Jesus lived the perfect life we couldn't live. Jesus is fully God and fully man. He lived the life we couldn't live. So when we trust in Jesus, God places our sins on Jesus. Then when Jesus died on the cross, he was dying in our place so that we can live. When we place our faith and trust in Jesus, we are given a new life. A new life of hope, and of confidence, that he has gone on ahead of us, and one day we will have the joy of being with him in paradise.

The most effective way to enact the vision of blended worship is to increase the musician talent pool.
It is like this, we end up messing things up. Like if we brought hard boiled eggs and nuts when we should have brought chocolate; we should have done what is right.

It is going to be challenging to get through this. You are going to miss her, and that is ok. It is ok to cry that you is her. But have peace. Lillian is at home. Jesus will someday remove your pain. Someday when you place your faith and trust you will be with Him in paradise.
Thank You for your time. I hope this helps people understand the Worship team.
