Optimistic Believer

1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

1. Think Positive Thoughts

Phil 4:8 “8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

What are you thinking about?

Jesus always had the Father in mind

His attitude was to do the Will of the Father

Some Christians fail to discipline their thinking

They allow negatives to dominate their minds

Stope Thinking Stupid Stuff (St.SS)

Christians must take deliberate action, replacing negative thoughts with positives and keeping an optimistic outlook

2. Hear Positive Sounds

Rom 10:17 “17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ.”

Jn 8:47 “47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.””

Many people listen to the filth, smut, and destruction coming across the airwaves

Their spirits are dwarfed

Stop Hearing Stupid Stuff (SHSS)

We must listen to the good, not the bad

We must hear from the Lord and heed his Word

Jn 10:27 “27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”

Tune your ears to Jesus

3. See Positive Sights

Heb 12:2 “2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Some Christians look for the bad in people and circumstances, seeing only the faults and negatives

Mt 6:22 “22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.”

What are you looking at?

Stop Looking at Stupid Stuff (SLaSS)

If you want to see the bad in others, you will

To be a positive person one must look for the good and look to Jesus

4. Speak Positive Words

Ps 51:15 “15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.”

Col 4:6 “6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.”

Many people talk mostly about evil and bad events

Some are harsh, unkind, and take God’s name in vain

Stop Saying Stupid Stuff (SSSS)

Prov 16:24 “24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”

We should talk positively, seeking to glorify God by extolling his goodness, grace, and love

Don’t speak negative even when it is true

If there is nothing good to say, say nothing

Your words should heal not destroy

5. Perform Positive Deeds

Col 3:23 “23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,”

The actions of many are negative

They are selfishly motivated, dishonest, and displeasing to God

We must be truthful, ready to lift those who are down, and witness for Christ

Ps 34:14 “14 Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.”

Stop Doing Stupid Stuff (SDSS)

Gal 6:10 “10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.”

2 Thess 3:13 “13 And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right.”

Do the right thing no to show off but because you are a child of God

6. Attend Positive Places

Ps122:1 “1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.””

Christians hurt their influence when they go to the wrong places in search of entertainment

Going to places for entertainment does not have to be bad; it becomes bad when it takes you from the House of God

Be a positive Christian

Attend church faithfully

Go with God and he will go with you

Heb 10:25 “25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

God is doing something new, don’t miss it

God is pulling a Job (latter life)
