Revelation 19:11-12
The Bible is full of different people, with amazing stories that inspire and help guide us in our life.
But of all the people in the Bible that we read about, none of them compare to one person that we find, that being Jesus Christ.
Now, understand, Jesus is found throughout the entire Bible. There is not a book that we do not see his presence in some way. His life and ministry is shared with us through the Gospels and we see his life from infancy to death, to resurrection.
Perhaps though, one of the best descriptions we get of Jesus, of who he is really, is found right here in Revelation.
Verse 11 – “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse”
· Remember, John has been in the spirit, and he has witnessed the joining of the bride to her groom. There has been a great marriage supper as well.
· There has been a lot of joy, but as great as all of that is, the main focus is now revealed.
· In an amazing entrance, heaven itself is opened. Man wants to speculate what is out there in the far reaches of space.
· We send probes and satellites to try to learn more what is in the beyond, which is foolish, because I know what is there. Heaven.
· Here Heaven is opened, the layers that we do not see, are peeled back like a curtain. And the first thing that John sees is a white horse.
· Now, this answers a question, will there be animals in heaven? Absolutely. Now I don’t believe that your old pet will be there, but there are animals that are there.
· Here is pictured a horse, now the white horse is a kingly horse. It represented the purity and holiness of the rider.
· When a king rode a horse, it was for war. It was a military campaign. It was a sign of victory. And the first thing John see is Victory. Maybe that is the name of this horse, who knows.
“And he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True”
· As John has noticed this stallion, we know this because John states the horse is a him. His focus leaves the horse and looks to the rider.
· We know this rider is Jesus Christ, but what we are given is not the common name of Jesus, but his titles. And the first title we are given is “Faithful”
· Now, there is no one more faithful than Jesus. He made the promise at the end of Matthew, I will be with you always.
· We are not always faithful are we. We aren’t faithful at times to our job, to our work, to our duties, to coming to church, to whatever it might be. There are times where we fail in our job.
· Not Christ, he is faithful. There is never a time where he neglects watching you. Caring for you, loving you and being there for you. Never leaves our side. He is always there.
· But that is not the only thing that makes him faithful. Friend I know that Jesus is faithful to provide for me and protect me.
· There have been a lot of close calls in my life, I have scratched my head thinking how I escaped, well I was spared because of Jesus. His hand has been on me and he has been faithful.
· But not only is he faithful, friend he is True.
· Now friend, when the Bible says he is True, that means he is certain. He is reliable, He is straight, he is sure.
· As many who will try to deny who Christ is, to say that he didn’t exist or that he is not God, they will see the truth. That Jesus is True!
· Now what is Jesus faithful and true too? He has been faithful and true to his word, to his nature, to his love, and to you and I.
“And in righteousness he doth judge and make war.”
· Now the next thing this verse tells us, what his intentions are.
· Now understand, this is not the rapture of the church. This is not describing the calling away of his bride. The bride is in heaven already. We just learned that.
· This revealing of Christ is for another reason. This is not the rapture, this is the revelation of Christ.
· He is coming to judge and make war. And he is doing this because of his righteousness.
· The world is evil, we look around we see it everywhere. We are indoctrinated with evil just about everywhere we go.
· Well there is coming a day where all of the evil, all of the sin, all of the rebellion, all of the filth, it will all be cleaned up.
· Jesus is pure and holy, there is no spot or blemish about him. He comes in righteousness and he comes to judge this world.
· This world, this society, will be judged. Listen, there is no getting away with something. I look at television and here about a cold case, a case where it looks like a person got away with something. Listen, Jesus knows who they are. And he will judge them for it.
· Our courts and judges are not perfect. They have fallen short. They have turned an eye to sin. But Jesus will not do that. He will come and judge sin.
· Now we are excited for the coming of the Lord. We know what it means for you and I. But not everyone will be expecting how the Lord will return.
· Some would like to put Jesus back in the cradle and then nail him to the cross once again. That ain’t happening. In fact, when Jesus comes back, he is not coming back to serve. He is coming back to judge and make war.
· There will be a great war that will take place. It will be the line in the sand. IT will be the dividing point to an era.
· Christ will come and make a war on sin. Make a war on Satan.
· There will be a conflict when Jesus comes, but friend I know who will be victorious.
· People want to say, oh Jesus is a God of Love, he will not come to condemn me. I don’t know what you are reading. But my Bible says that God is a God who does not change.
· When people opposed him in the Old Testament, he told the Israelites to utterly destroy them. Leave nothing behind. That is what He is going to do here in Revelation.
Verse 12 – “His eyes were as a flame of fire”
· Now John can’t help but notice his eyes. The eyes of Jesus are not like our eyes. I look around and some of us have differing shades or colors.
· Some of us have blue, brown, some have green or varied colors of them. Some people will buy contacts and change the color of their eye all together.
· Some of us struggle to see clearly, some of us struggle to see at all.
· The eyes of Jesus are nothing like ours. His eyes, even the color are different. His eyes are described by John as flame.
· I think that John is helping us understand that these eyes pierce, or penetrating power.
· Remember when we watched Superman. One of his powers was x-ray vision. He could see beyond walls. The only thing that stopped his vision was lead.
· Well, nothing stops the eyes of Jesus. He is able to see in the dark placed, the closed doors, into the innermost recesses of the heart. He knows all.
· A fire consumes. There will be nothing that can be hid from his eyes. He will be able to see to the very heart.
“On his head were many crowns”
· Here is another distinguishing feature in regards to the Lord. He will be wearing these crowns.
· Crowns symbolize many things. They represent rule and authority. They show victory and honor.
· There are many countries in this world today. But Jesus will be the king of all.
· We say the phrase, I have to wear many hats. Well, Jesus wears all the crowns. He is king of all. There is not a crown he doesn’t wear.
· Just like his many titles, Jesus has a crown for all areas of this world. There is no kingdom or realm that he is not overall. He is the ruler and there are none above him.
“And he had a name written, that no man knew, but himself.”
· The name of God. What should I tell them your name is? That is the question that Moses posed to God in Exodus.
· We all want to know what his name really is. What is the name he has for himself. The angel called him Jesus when he was born, but I call him Lord.
· The name of the Lord what is it? Well, guess what. No one knows. The only person who knows is the Lord.
· But I know what it says about his name:
· “Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Ph. 2:9–11).
· There are many names that we know Jesus by, but there is a name that we will read about in heaven. A name that God has, a name that only he knows.
· This name is not a name that we can guess, but I know this, it will be the most beautiful name of all.
There is a name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in mine ear,
The sweetest name on earth.
It tells me of a Savior's love,
Who died to set me free;
It tells me of His precious blood,
The sinner's perfect plea.
It tells me what my Father hath,
In store for every day,
And though I tread a darksome path,
Yields sunshine all the way.
It tells of One whose loving heart
Can feel my deepest woe,
Who in each sorrow bears a part
That none can bear below.
