DISCUSSION:
I. Fed Up with Sin
A.
Genesis 6:5–7 NKJV
Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.”
B.
Genesis 6:11–13 NKJV
The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth. And God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
C.
Genesis 6:17 NKJV
And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.
Genesis 7:4 NKJV
For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy from the face of the earth all living things that I have made.”
II. Noah is Willing to Stand Out Among All Men
A. I am sorry that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. 9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Gen. 6:7-10)
Genesis 6:7–10 NKJV
So the Lord said, “I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth, both man and beast, creeping thing and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. And Noah begot three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
B.
Genesis 6:12 NKJV
So God looked upon the earth, and indeed it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth.
1. Think of the worst problems in American society today… are you the person God could talk to about it?
C. 14 Make yourself an ark of gopherwood
1. Can you imagine building a massive boat, not on the sea in a land where it does not rain??
D.
2 Peter 2:4–5 NKJV
For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment; and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;
1. Can you imagine delivering an unbelievably grand and negative sermon to a completely wicked people for 100 years straight?’
III. God Made Only One Safe Place
A.
Genesis 6:17–18 NKJV
And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die. But I will establish My covenant with you; and you shall go into the ark—you, your sons, your wife, and your sons’ wives with you.
B.
Genesis 7:23 NKJV
So He destroyed all living things which were on the face of the ground: both man and cattle, creeping thing and bird of the air. They were destroyed from the earth. Only Noah and those who were with him in the ark remained alive.
1. God said there was one way, and His actions confirmed His statement.
C.
Matthew 24:36–39 NKJV
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
1. There is only one safe place today, and though we preach it, and though Jesus has built this beautiful, unique ark; many in that day will be caught unprepared and off guard.
CONCLUSION:
1. Will you find grace in the eyes of the Lord and enter the one safe place?
a. No flood is coming, but the Lord is.
b. Be ready.
