Pauls Farewell Addresses

Prayer Requests and concerns
Does anyone remember Kendalls farewell examples so far? Review Kendall’s sermons, 1st farewell: Joshua’s farewell to Israelites, 2nd farewell: Samual’s Farewell to Isreal, 3rd Farewell: Paul’s farewell to the Ephesians
What are common themes in each farewell? Are there warnings and instructions in each?
Paul wrote several epistles ( or letters) to the churches. We will examine the closings of some of these letters. Not goodbyes but rather a “I hope you fare well until I see you again.”
Ephesians 6:10-24
Ephesians 6:10–24 NIV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should. 21 Tychicus, the dear brother and faithful servant in the Lord, will tell you everything, so that you also may know how I am and what I am doing. 22 I am sending him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are, and that he may encourage you. 23 Peace to the brothers and sisters, and love with faith from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
Read Romans 15:4-7
Romans 15:4–7 NIV
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope. 5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, 6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
According to Pauls passage in Romans 15:4 What is Scriptures purpose? What is taught through scripture? What does Scripture provide?
5 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had,
What type of attitude and mind does Jesus have toward us? What type of attitude and mind should we have toward each other?
6 so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
After reading verse 6; What do you think is the best way to glorify God?
7 Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
Is it always easy to accept others the same way Christ accepts us? Why or Why not?
Read 2Cor13:11-14
2 Corinthians 13:11–14 NIV
11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All God’s people here send their greetings. 14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Are there any similarities between these two passages? What are they?
11 Finally, brothers and sisters, rejoice! Strive for full restoration, encourage one another, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you.
12 Greet one another with a holy kiss. 13 All God’s people here send their greetings.
14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
