I. The Price of the Redemption of our Sins

Redeemed from what? Gal 3:10-13
Galatians 3:10–13 NKJV
For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.” Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”),
Why is Blood the price of Redemption? 1 Pet 1:18-19
1 Peter 1:18–19 NKJV
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
the Blood of Christ is the most precious thing possible - it is the blood of God.
The Blood of Christ is our Passover Ex 12:5, 12-13
Exodus 12:5 NKJV
Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.
Exodus 12:12–13 NKJV
‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord. Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
Blood - a violent death - is the price of sin Heb 9:22; Lev 17:11; Gen 2:17
Hebrews 9:22 NKJV
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.
Leviticus 17:11 NKJV
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’
Genesis 2:17 NKJV
but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
What does this redemption accomplish? Heb 9:11-15
Hebrews 9:11–15 NKJV
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of bulls and goats and the ashes of a heifer, sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies for the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.

II. The Riches of his Grace show His Wisdom

The tremendous cost of redemption highlights the lavishness of God’s Grace.
The difficulty of cleansing sin shows the matchless wisdom of God.

III. The Purpose of God to Unite All in Christ

The mystery of God’s Will. A Mystery is something that is now revealed that wasn’t known before. It was already known that blood is the price of redemption. There are even hints that someone will suffer for others (Isa 53). It was known that the Messiah would rule.
What was not known is the true magnitude of what God intended to do through Christ. All things in heaven and earth will bow to Jesus Christ. All things.
The fulness of time. That is, there was a right moment for God to send his Son into the world. Gal 4:4. There will be a right moment for Jesus to return and take the throne that is rightfully his. that no one on earth knows when that is is irrelevant. There is a perfect time, and Jesus will not return until that time is reached.
Galatians 4:4 NKJV
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
Note on Dispensationalism
Begins with the observation that there is a difference between Israel and the Church Ephesians 3:5-6
Ephesians 3:5–6 NKJV
which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets: that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel,
Further, the Law of Moses has been done away Gal 3:23-25; John 1:17
Galatians 3:23–25 NKJV
But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
John 1:17 NKJV
For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
However, salvation has always been by Grace through faith (Gen 15:6), and we are still under the “law of Christ.” Gal 6:2; 1 John 4:21
Genesis 15:6 NKJV
And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
Galatians 6:2 NKJV
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
1 John 4:21 NKJV
And this commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also.
So what’s the difference? the Law of Moses was a specific legal code for a specific people and a specific time. God’s own morality is unchangeable, but the application of that unchanging moral character varies depending on the details of each situation.
Having noticed the difference between Israel under the Law of Moses and the Church under the headship of Christ, we observe that God deals with men in different ways at different times, as he works out his eternal purpose in history.
Once the two dispensations of Law and Grace are proven, we can see others. Mount Sinai was a seismic change in God’s dealing with mankind. It was the institution of the Law of Moses. Prior to that, people still had commands to obey from God, but the Law of Moses wasn’t in effect.
Another seismic change was God’s call of Abraham. Prior to that, God dealt with humanity equally, but we with one voice turned away from him. So God chose one man through whom his entire purpose would be accomplish - that man was Abraham. Since the emphasis on Abraham was the promise of the Abrahamic Covenant, we call that era the era of “promise.”
going back further, we see another change at the Flood. Prior to the Flood, there was no human government, just extended families. Prior to the Flood, capital punishment wasn’t in effect. There were sacrifices, and people still had to obey God’s Law. In fact, there was still a promise, too. The promise of the Seed of the Woman. But there was no divine Covenant between God and Man. The first Covenant in Scripture was the Noaic Covenant. That Covenant promised no worldwide flood, with the Rainbow as the sign. That Covenant instituted human government, and permitted humans to eat meat.
Finally, the Fall of Man was the other change. Prior to the fall of Man, there were no promises, since there was no pain to require a promise. Just the blessing to fill the earth and have dominion over it. There was a law - only one - don’t eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. God instituted marriage as the basic building block of society. Since Adam and Eve did not understand good and evil, we call it the age of innocence.
there’s another dispensation coming. someday Jesus will return and will reign. This will be a dramatic shift, since now people will be responsible to obey King Jesus who resides at an address in Jerusalem. Laws will be made directly by the person of Jesus. His coming reign is part of that plan to unite everything in Him.
