Revelation 19:9-10
Vs 9 - The Called
“And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb”
· Now John is instructed to write once again, obviously what we see is that John has some difficulty in writing some of the things he is witnessing because of how wondrous they are.
· Here at this wedding, John is told to write.
· Now at a wedding, there are guest. Remember when you were preparing that list? Perhaps you had hundreds of people to invite, maybe you had a smaller wedding with just close friends and family, or maybe you had only a couple of others. But you had guest to witness the wedding.
· Well here at this wedding, there are guests as well. Who are they then? These are the redeemed of the other ages. Not the church age. The patriarchs, the prophets, those who came before the church.
· Now these who come to this wedding are blessed. What do I mean. Well, have you ever been to a wedding?
· Maybe you sat out there and watched the whole service, and then what comes after the wedding, the reception!
· I have been to some weddings that have put on full course meals. But none of those weddings are going to compare to this feast.
· Remember when Jesus was about to begin his ministry. He was at a marriage feast and they ran out of wine. Jesus then changed the water into wine and the guests of the wedding were questioning why they saved the best for last.
· Jesus was only in charge of the wine for that service, but here he is in charge of the whole meal. Can you imagine how good that is going to be.
· Now those guests who come to this wedding, they are going to be able to partake in this meal, and it is going to be wonderful.
· Now some would think that this is just some fancy story to make us feel better about life, that this really isn’t going to happen but listen to the next statement that is shared.
“And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.”
· Now what we read here, this isn’t some kind of fairy tale that we wish would happen. This is going to happen.
· The wedding of all ages is going to come. Yes, it may take some time before it happens, but it is going to happen.
· Now what do we need to take from this, we need to be ready and preparing, and not disregarding what the Lord has told us.
· Do you believe the Bible? Do you believe what the Lord has said? Do you believe what scripture has taught and preacher has preached? Do you believe that Jesus is coming back for his bride? He is!
· You know why, because God said so.
Verse 10 – Confute
“And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not:”
· John is witnessing an extraordinary moment in heaven. Seeing the bride and groom join together, his heart has the desire to worship.
· John’s guide on this journey, an angel is there in the presence of John, and John feels compelled to worship him.
· Worship, is the act and the display of love, respect, for a person, place, or thing. Now as Christians we worship the One True God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
· Now what did Jesus say about coming to the Father? No one comes to him except through Jesus. He is our conduit, he is our light, truth and the way.
· So worship is meant for God, and no one else. Yet, we see that people, want to worship through others.
· For example, many people will try to worship God through a person who lived in the past. They may take a disciple or person associated with Christ, and think that they are the one they must go to worship God.
· This is true for even angels. There are some groups that worship angels and think that they are there intercessor to God. But this is not the case.
· John felt compelled to worship, but it was what God had done in both of their lives that John felled to the ground to worship.
· Now remember angels are created beings just like we are. God at some point in history, created these beings to be spiritual servants. Beings that would do all sorts of different jobs.
· They were never meant to be worshipped. And when John begins to worship this angel, the angel quickly stops him from doing it.
· Now this serves as an example, when we come to church, we do not come to worship a fellow brother or sister, we do not come to worship the pastor.
· We follow Christ and not any other man. Yet, that is exactly what many Christians do. It is not right and just like this angel told John – see thou do it not.
“I am thy fellow servant and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God”
· Now the angel makes two statements that we need to take notice of.
· He is a fellow servant. Remember, angels have a role just like we do. We are to be the servants of God.
· Now thank goodness, angels are more faithful in their role compare to us. When God tells an angel in the Bible to do something, they carry it out. However, men on the other hand, are neglectful in their task.
· Who is it that we serve, who is it that angels serve? It is Christ.
· The angel also says to John that he is brethren. Is this angel Jewish? No. There is a little more to it.
· Angels can be considered to be John’s brothers because like believers, they are “sons of God”. Angels are called sons of God because like Adam, they were created by a direct act of God.
· Jesus bears the title Son of God in recognition of His birth through the direct agency of God. So, this can be said for all those who are spiritually born of God.
· Now what makes us brothers and sisters here tonight? Well it is the testimony of Jesus that lives within us.
· We are not of the same families, but we are united as family into the God’s kingdom because of what Jesus did.
· Now a testimony is what we witness, and the witness of Christ resides in us. The Holy Spirit. And because that resides in us, that unites us as family. The family of God.
· The angel makes the statement that we all should be reminded to do. That is to worship God.
· Why is worship so difficult for people? Why are the churches so lacking on Sundays? Why is there no desire to sing, teach, give, and listen to Jesus. Because worship is not a priority for many.
· Worship is what we should do in every part of our life. When we rise up in the morning, when we go to work or school, when we interact with others, when we sing or sit, when we come to church and when we are at home – we should worship God.
· Now is worship on your mind each day, well lets be honest, worship usually falls a little low on our day to day list. But it ought to be at the top.
· Any time we are putting something else before God, we are sinning. Now praise the Lord he will forgive us of that sin, but just because he forgives doesn’t mean that we should continue to do it.
· Remember church is not about you and what you can get out of it, it is about Jesus and what we give to him. And when we put that as our focus and flow the right way in our worship, then we will be blessed by it.
“For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”
· Now the angel speaks directly about the testimony of Jesus. And what is this testimony it is the spirit of prophecy.
· Now understand that there is no new prophecies about Jesus. Everything about Jesus has been written. But that spirit of Christ can come into us and teach us some new things.
· You know the Bible is an amazing message, I have read the Bible many times, and hopefully you as well. Now I can’t always tell you exactly where a verse is at. Now when I read the Bible I don’t always immediately know what it is saying. But here is what so amazing when it comes to the Bible. I have the author living in me.
· The spirit helps me understand what I don’t understand. That is why you can’t trust someone who knows about the Bible but doesn’t know the author. They don’t understand the intent.
· I read the Bible and the Bible reads me.
· Now everything I can tell from reading this book, there is nothing stopping Jesus from coming back. But when Jesus comes back, there are still things that need to be done.
· Things that have been prophesied. Things that still to come. And you know what I’m looking forward to them.
· Now remember, when someone says they have a prophecy to share, you just say no thank you and walk away. We have all we need in Jesus and his word. And when he finished his word he didn’t have any addendums.
· So, John and the angel conclude their conversation, now remember we are at a wedding. We have seen the bride, we have seen the guest, we have seen the meal, where is the groom? Well that is what we will see in our next weeks lesson.
