My Message is entitled:
Focused On Today
Scripture:
Main Scripture - Matthew 6:11
Supplemental Scripture - Isaiah 41:10, 43:1, Matthew 6:25-34
Big Idea
Fear has a proper place and it's in the hands of God.
Think about this:
Think
Consider how freeing it is to only be concerned with one day at a time, rather than feeling the pressure to manage your entire future all at once.
How do you feel ?
Feel
Be encouraged.
Even Christ prayed for daily bread (sustenance)
and told his followers not to spend time worrying about tomorrow (the future).
What do you Do about Fear & Anxiety?
Do
Be released from future fear, worry, and anxiety
and focus your energy on today.
Let us pray
Prayer
“Lord, help us to let go of all our plans and ideas about how things should be done in the future.
Help us to be present in the day we are living.
Help us to trust that you will provide all we need for today.”
Introduction
Welcome back!
Today is our 3rd week in our Fear Not series.
So far we’ve talked about the difference between healthy and unhealthy fear.
We know that God does not give us a spirit of fear but rather a spirit of power, of love, and of self-control.
We also learned that fear has a proper place.
Can anyone here today tell me where fear, anxiety, worry, doubt, etc… belong?
(Pastor - Asking questions and reiterating the previous weeks will help the audience follow along and re-engage with the material you’re going to be sharing today.
If there are any stories or testimonies to share here about dealing with healthy/unhealthy fear and putting fear in its proper place that would be helpful in setting up today’s message)
Today we’re going to look at one of the most important lessons Jesus taught his original followers.
This is a teaching that we cannot miss and it’s lifelong importance cannot be understated.
Simply put, as followers of Christ we are called to be focused on today.
Main Teaching
In our world today, fear, anxiety, and worry is at an historically high level.
People are struggling in these areas like never before.
The current climate we live in today, makes Jesus’ words more important then ever, when he says, “...do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.
Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
(Matthew 6:34)
.
Jesus, the Saviour of mankind said, “Don’t worry about tomorrow.”
This allows us to focus and to be present for today, to deal with every circumstance and situation that may come up.
Let’s Read what Jesus said about worry in (Matthew 6:25-27, 31-34)
