Romans 13:11 NKJV
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.
Speaking about the inevitability of our Lords coming.
Referring to the ultimate salvation of our bodies.
This verse is warning us not to sink down to a place of slumber, where no Christian work will get done.
God is asking us to know the seasons. Know the time be aware of what happening in this world. Don’t be ignorant.
Jesus wants us to be discerning of the times.
Wake up!
The captain on the boat told Jonah to wake up and call on his God.
Jonah 1:6 “So the captain came to him, and said to him, “What do you mean, sleeper? Arise, call on your God; perhaps your God will consider us, so that we may not perish.””
Jonah was on a ship where a violent storm happens and Jonah is sound asleep and pagans had to wake him up so he can call on his God to save them. But Jonah was apathetic to the crying people who are perishing.
We can be apathetic to our neighbor who are crying and looking for God but we are fast asleep not caring about the lost. Gods calling us to wake up!
Jesus told the same thing to Peter “ could you not pray with me for one hour” Watch and pray unless you enter into temptation.
Matt. 26:40 “Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour?”
Matt 26:41 “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.””
Allot of times we live our lives to be safe we search for safety
Thats why I love the third world. You run out your house someone throws a bottle at you.
Or you walking down the street and a riot breaks out.
In America we are just to comfortable.
You cannot live out the will of God for your life if you motivation is safety.
Because in the will of God theres risk
Maybe finicial risk , maybe physical risk
Acts 9:13–16 NKJV
Then Ananias answered, “Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.” But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.”
Wake up to righteousness, and do not sin.
1 Co. 15:34Awake to righteousness, and do not sin; for some do not have the knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame.”
Matt. 6:33 “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Wake up, arise from the dead and Christ will give you light!
Eph 5:14 “Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.””
1 Th. 5:5-8 “You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.”
Luke 12:54 NKJV
Then He also said to the multitudes, “Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, ‘A shower is coming’; and so it is.
Luke 12:55 NKJV
And when you see the south wind blow, you say, ‘There will be hot weather’; and there is.
Luke 12:56 NKJV
Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?
The Messiah was right in front of them, but they failed to apply themselves to know the time they where in.
They could rightly understand if a rain storm is coming. And they could knew if heat was coming from the south from the desert. But they could not understand the times.
Thats just like us we can tell you whats happening on the latest episode of real house wives. We can tell you about the political climate of the day. But ask someone to give you a verse about peace.
Jesus is saying that understanding the times are infinitely more important then knowing if a hurricane was coming.

If the Jews even then were called by our Lord “hypocrites,” for applying their God-given discernment to the signs of the weather, and neglecting to apply it to spiritual things, and so going on blindly to judgment; how much more this should arouse us who have so much greater light and knowledge, in view of Christ’s death and resurrection, and the presence of the Holy Spirit; and the certainty of our Lord’s coming, and our uncertainty as to the day and hour!

Romans 13:12–14 NKJV
The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Revelry - noisy partying or merrymaking
The ESV says orgy’s.
AMP -says carousing
God is asking us to know the seasons. Know the time be aware of what happening in this world. Don’t be ignorant.
Jesus wants us to be discerning of the times.
