God’s design for the home is that a father is responsible to pass on his faith in Jesus on to his children.
Many homes do not have a father in the home, and so this falls upon the shoulders of the mother, or grandparent.
But this is not just something that is good to do, this is necessary!
Many men go through their family life without giving a second thought as to what is God’s plan for the home?
Fathers are to teach and lead their families to have faith in God!
It’s not easy!
One cynic from my childhood, speaking from his own experience, noted that children go through four fascinating stages.
first they call you Da Da
Then they call you Daddy
As they mature they call you Dad
Finally they call you collect.
But no matter what our experience is, we need to look at what God says about being a father!
God’s plan is for fathers—not the church, pastor, or school teachers—but fathers to bear the responsibility of teaching their children to love the Lord and serve Him.
We have seen many examples so far of men and women who have walked by faith!
And throughout this list in Hebrews 11 we see many fathers of faith who taught their children the value and the necessity of faith in God!
Isaac was the son of promise to a man of faith - Abraham
Jacob is the grandson and the third generation to walk the life by faith.
The faith of Abraham was passed on to Isaac, and the faith of Isaac was passed on to Jacob.
None of these men were perfect, they all made mistakes.
But overall you can see a consistency of faith that was passed from generation to generation.
My father passed the torch of God’s promises to me and my siblings.
And now it is my responsibility to pass that torch to my children.
Do your children see your faith in God?
Have you show them examples of God’s provision?
Let’s look at a few key principles that will allow us to pass our faith to our next generation.
We see first of all that Godly parents will
I.

Parent’s really need to be careful not to short circuit the faith in God in the hearts of their children.
Parent purposefully!

We parents need to do the same!
A. Faith Blesses the Family
“By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau”
A life lived by faith sees the residual blessings, not just on their own lives, but on every life in his family!
Us fathers need to be the leaders in this area!
Be the example in word and dead!
You are forming in your children how they will view God the Father!
Will they see him as
an evil tyrant
an angry father
a loving father
a kind and gracious father?
Fathers pride themselves in being the protector of the home.
He is the man that the children awake at night when the boogy man comes or when the unknown noise or sound is heard.
Dads play a big role in protecting their families—and they should!
I don’t know a Dad alive who would let an intruder come into their home unchecked, much less invite them in and make their intrusion easy.
NO!
We buy and install locks, security doors, alarms, and load the guns.
We are the protector.
Fathers are a shield.
What have you done to ensure the spiritual security of your home?
Faith blesses the family, but unrighteousness curses the family!
If you live by faith, you will be a shield of God’s favor on your home and family.
Isaac blessed his family.
B. Faith Blesses the Future
“Concerning things to come”
Isaac, by faith, spoke to his sons about the future.
Jacob sought to steal the blessing form his older brother Esau by dressing like him and tricking their blind father.
Later Esau came in out of the field, and once they realized what had happened, Isaac spoke of his future.
This may not seem very fair, but God had already orchestrated this earlier at the birth of the brothers.
Isaac simply, by faith, spoke what had been delivered to him by faith.
His plans really didn’t matter, because he was faithful throughout his life God’s will was done.
Jacob - name means supplanter or trickster - eventually chose faithfulness to God and was blessed.
His name was changed from Jacob (supplanter) to Israel, which means He who prevails with God.
He would go on to father the twelve tribes of Israel.
Esau - eventually forsook the faith, and so did his ancestors.
Later he was known as Edom and turned to paganism only to reap the judgment of God.

Produce a Legacy of Faith
v. 21a

The faith did not die with Abraham, nor did it die with Isaac, or Jacob, or even Joseph.
But it was passed on to Ephraim and Manasseh.
In fact, Abraham’s faith legacy has been carried down to your faith!
You are a part of that legacy of faith!
If we only really understood how important dad’s are to life of a child!
According to Dr. T. Berry Brazelton, a father’s involvement with a child increases the child’s IQ, the child’s motivation to learn, and the child’s self-confidence.
In addition, children with involved dads are more likely to develop a sense of humor as well as an “inner excitement.”
Fathers, Your children need you!!!
They need you to...
A. Give Godly Instruction
Have you taught your children to fear the Lord?

How to make choices based on principles of the Word of God!
I have heard horrible accounts of fathers introducing their sons to pornography, or giving them their first beer, and many other vile and foolish things.
