Sermon 4 in 2022 series on habit of stewardship.

Notes
Transcript
1 Corinthians 4:1–2 CSB
A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God. In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.

INTRO—

[[WUV= “Dive” - SCC]]
1 Corinthians 4.2 “In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.”
Stewardship readily brings to mind the two major categories we’ve looked into so far—time & money…but what are other areas do we need to take some time to consider? Here are just a few I’d like to present to you today…
The EXTENT of our Stewardship...

(First of All…) I am A Steward

STEWARD = οἰκονόμος (oikonomos)
‘oikos’: House; ‘nomos’: law (rare alternate—’nemo’: distributor)
“The one tasked to carry out the house rules & responsibilities.”
1 Corinthians 4.1-2 “A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God. In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.”

Our Less Noticed Stewardships

[Yep, made up that word!]
CREATION STEWARDSHIP
(I sneaked this one in on our first week considering the habit of stewardship—when we talked about the establishment by God of our responsibility as stewards)
Genesis 1.26-28 “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, the whole earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.” So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God; he created them male and female. God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth, and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every creature that crawls on the earth.””
Genesis 2.15 “The Lord God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it.”
To “keep it”…is like to keep up your yard; house; car…
I don’t read at any point in Scripture that we have been relieved of this stewardship…
MINISTRY STEWARDSHIP
1 Corinthians 4.1-2 “A person should think of us in this way: as servants of Christ and managers of the mysteries of God. In this regard, it is required that managers be found faithful.”
Servants…Faithful…
Within whatever cultural context (and amid changes in “status” over time)
The Mysteries of God
1 Timothy 3.16 “And most certainly, the mystery of godliness is great: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”
1 Timothy 3.15 “But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.”
HEALTH STEWARDSHIP
1 Corinthians 6.19-20 “Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. So glorify God with your body.”
Paul addressing a wrong belief in Corinth that what was done with their bodies had no bearing on their relationship to God (Kinda the reason they had issues with such unspeakable immorality being tolerated among them).
But what about…
1 Timothy 4.8 “For the training of the body has limited benefit, but godliness is beneficial in every way, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”
1 Corinthians 9.27 “Instead, I discipline my body and bring it under strict control, so that after preaching to others, I myself will not be disqualified.”
Also, the reason that I—along with my lovely wife—are getting back into the gym and on track with… “Healthy Habits.”

CONCL—

KINGDOM STEWARDSHIP…Kingdom Living… [above ALL]
Matthew 6.10 “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Colossians 3.17 “And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
Colossians 3:17 CSB
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
