“All You Need is Love”—Right?
In July 1967, the Beatles released a non-album song called, “All You Need is Love”.
It was written by John Lennon and attributed to John Lennon and Paul McCartney.
It was released during the turmoil of the Vietnam war.
Why is LOVE so Hard to Find?
People are looking for someone to love THEM.
People say “I love you” to get what they want.
People say “I love you” with conditions.
People say, “I love you” today but walk away tomorrow.
Why is love so hard to find?
People do not know what love is.
What is “LOVE”?
“I Love You”.
“I” represents the SUBJECT or source of love
“You” represents the OBJECT of love
“Love” represents the VERB or action (expression, emanation) of love.
LOVE joins the SUBJECT and the OBJECT together as one.
The Lover
The Beloved
The Love
GOD is Love
NOT “Love is God”
People distort “love” as a pretext to approve what is moral.
If we say we “love” something or someone, then it must be of God because God is love—right?
WRONG
BUT “God is Love”
Love does not define God.
God defines love.
If it is not like God, it is not love.
God’s love is triune.
God is triune: Father, Son, Holy Spirit.
They are One and the same.
God’s love is triune:
Father (“I”) is the SOURCE of all love.
Son (“YOU”) is the OBJECT of the Father’s love, the Son, Messiah, the Beloved
Holy Spirit (“LOVE”) is the Emanation of love between the Father and the Son.
How Do We Know Love Anyway?
“Love is both a NOUN and a VERB”
We don’t know love by what love SAYS
We know love by what love DOES
We know God’s love by what God did for us
God demonstrated His love for us by sending Jesus to die for our sins
Response to the Word
Are you looking for someone to love you?
Are you ready to experience true love?
Come to God who is love.
Receive God’s love by trusting in the Son of His love who died for you—Jesus Christ.
