As a child, I was a severe asthmatic and would spend a lot of time in the doctor’s office.
One particular family doctor had a bible on the table in his waiting room.
I loved to read and for some reason I was always fascinated with this Bible.
But I didn’t know, really know, what the Bible was and I especially didn’t know how it was to be read.
And so, each time I would start at the beginning, chapter 1 and start reading until the doctor called us in.

To this day I still look at Genesis as the beginning.
But is a beginning that the Lord has graciously allowed to experience by looking back.
It is written with the sole purpose of looking back.
We look back after the Exodus.
We look back after knowing that we are fallen and sinful.
We look back after knowing that a Savior has come into the world.
We look back after knowing that, despite all of our scientific and medical advancements and our self appointed greatness, we still live in a world of chaos, a world of evil, a world that doesn’t make sense.
People still ask the questions: Who am I? Why am I here?
Where am I going?
This morning’s message addresses one simple principle: There is a God, He is the Creator, that which He creates is good.
These truths must be received by faith and not by proof.
These truths must be revealed by the Holy Spirit and not by secular wisdom.
(1) There is a God
(2) He is the Creator
Creator out of nothing
Creator of all things.
(3) That which He creates is good
There is a God - all we see and experience is from Him and through Him
He creates with purpose - He could have created in a moment, He chose to create a process
There is a redemptive purpose - we see creation but do we see the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
Do we see the perfection that was marred by man’s rebellion?
Do we see our need for salvation and the path of salvation already being prepared?
There is a doxological purpose - that He might be worshiped and glorified.
Do we worship the creation or the Creator
There is a sovereign purpose - the purpose of the trinity unveiled.
The sharing of perfect communion and community with the creation.
