Satisfaction for the Sick

James 5:13-18

While there is such a thing as Divine Healing, it’s God’s prerogative. There is only One Divine Healer, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. Does the Cross of Christ cover healing? Yes! Healing is provided in the atonement. “By His stripes, we were healed.” Does God still heal? Yes! We know by His Word and by our experience.

1. Is it ALWAYS the will of God to heal?

a. YES! It is ALWAYS God’s will that you be healed. If it were not ALWAYS His will, then Jesus would not have paid for it with His life’s Blood. But, while it is certainly ALWAYS God’s will to heal, it is not ALWAYS His wisdom to heal (Mark 1:40-41; Hebrews 13:8; Romans 2:11). What He did for one, He will do for another.

b. The Bible is full of God saying things like, “I wanted this, but you chose that.” “My desire was this, but you refused…” “I told you this, but you wouldn’t listen…” “I would have done this or that, but you chose the other…” Jesus cried in Matthew 23:37-39, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the Prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!” That was the will of God! But what was His wisdom? Verses 38-39, “Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. (39) For I say unto you, Ye shall not see Me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord!”

c. We belong to God. We have been purchased with a great price. He has NOTHING but our welfare at heart (Jeremiah 29:11-13; Romans 8:28; Romans 5:3-5). The Lord doesn’t want you to pray, “Lord, heal me if it’s Your will.” You already know it’s His will. Jesus paid for it! Despite our prayers, if healing is withheld or delayed, the Lord may be trying to teach us something or do a work in us for a greater purpose.

2. Am I not healed due to a LACK of faith?

a. NO! If you’re a Child of God, that’s NOT why He hasn’t healed you. Paul said in Romans 12:3 that, “God hath dealt to every man THE measure of faith.” However much that is! But we must understand that the Lord won’t ever allow us, by our faith, to override His will. This completely debunks the false teaching that if a person has enough faith, they can do anything or get God to do anything. It is not Scriptural. If a person can take their faith and override the will and wisdom of God with their faith, then they’re saying they want to be more powerful than God, which was the reason Lucifer was cast out of Heaven.

b. (Isaiah 40:21-31) It’s not at all about who we are. It is all about Who He is! Jesus taught that it’s not about the amount of faith; it’s what the faith we do have is placed in. In Luke 17:5-10, Jesus was saying the servant is not above his master. It doesn’t take much faith as long as ALL of it is in Him. If your faith, hope and trust is in Christ and His Blood that was shed for you at Calvary, the power of the Holy Spirit is there to do the work.

c. The same faith you have for salvation works for healing, for Baptism in the Holy Spirit, for deliverance, whatever you need from God. The problem is not lack of faith, but what faith you have, may be placed in the wrong thing. Have faith in God! Healing is for you. Jesus healed, ALL “that came to Him.” He never turned anyone away. He never said, “It’s not God’s will to heal you” (3 John 1:2; 1 Peter 2:24).
