What Have You Done? Genesis 3:7-15.

I.

A. The First Questions God Ever Asked

1. “Where art thou?” (v. 9)

2. “Who told thee that thou wast naked?” (v. 11)

3. “What is this that thou hast done?” (v. 13)

B. The First Answers

1. Adam and Eve simply past the buck

2. Adam blamed God “woman thou gavest . . . me” and Eve “she gave me of the tree” (v. 12)

3. Eve blamed the “The serpent beguiled me” (v. 13)

A. A Question About Life’s Most Serious Subject

1. The subject is sin

2. What is sin

a. Missing the mark

k. Falling away

3. Summary of sin

a. An act: the violation of or disobedience to the will of God

b. A state: unrighteousness

4. The three steps of Eve’s temptation to sin, v. 6.

5. The same by steps apply today. Satan has not changed his tricks one bit. (1 John 2:16)

B. It Is a Question That Calls for Repentance

1. “What is this that thou hast done?”

2. Notice vs. 12-13, the blame game

3. God’s questions are not to condemn but to convict

4. Conviction of sin brings repentance

a. Repentance begins with awareness of sin

b. Repentance is a change of attitude about sin

5. How would you answer God’s question to Eve?

a. What have you done?

b. What brings conviction to your heart?

c. What do you need to confess and forsake?

6. Turn from your sins to Christ

7. God is not willing that any perish (2 Peter 3:9)

C. It Is a Question That Precedes the Promise of Redemption

1. This is the first promise of redemption, “The first Gospel” (v. 15)

2. Like Adam and Eve, we are all sinners (Romans 3:23)

3. God offers forgiveness and eternal life to sinners

4. Whatever you have done, God loves you (Romans 5:1)
