Ephesians 2:20–22 (ESV)
20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
SVCC is built by God, upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, and with Christ Jesus as the cornerstone.
We are joined together by union with Christ, we are growing, and we are a dwelling place of God by his Spirit.

WHY?…
TODAY: A Season for Ministry
Opening Scripture:
1 Peter 2:9 ESV
9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

Every believer is called to be a minister

Chosen - by the means of Jesus reconciling us to God and one another (1 Pt. 1:1)
Royal Priesthood - represent the King as ambassadors who mediate God’s presence to the world (Source: EGGNT:1Pe.)
Holy Nation - Our status because God is holy and not because our own ethical standard (1 Pt. 1:16).
People - purchased by the blood of Christ (1 Pt. 1:19)
Proclaim (Ex. 19:6 does not include proclaiming)

Ministry is to God, One Another, and to the World

God - Priests served God
One Another - A nation and a people were to work together
The World - Proclaiming to a dark world (does this mean more than just to people?)
Stories of ministry:

No Matter the Season of Life, believers are to be ministers

(To God, One Another, & The World)
Eric Erickson’s Stage of Psychological Development:
1. Teens (12-18)
Identity vs. Role Confusions
Who am I?
Sexual and occupational identities (values, beliefs, and goals)
2. Young Adults (18-35)
Intimacy vs. Isolation
Can I develop healthy relationships?
3. Middle Adulthood (35-55)
Generativity (i.e. making your mark on the world) vs. self-absorptions
Can I make my life count?
Work is most crucial
4. Late Adulthood (55+)
Integrity vs. Despair
Did my life count? Did I make a difference?
No matter you stage of life here are 8 things to remember for BEGINNING MINISTRY from the story for the Good Samaritan:
Luke 10:25–37 (ESV)
25 And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him to the test, saying, “Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” 26 He said to him, “What is written in the Law? How do you read it?” 27 And he answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” 28 And he said to him, “You have answered correctly; do this, and you will live.” 29 But he, desiring to justify himself, said to Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” 30 Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

8 Ways to Begin Ministering to one another and to the world

1. God will lead us to an area of need and place it across our path.

2. He will show us people who genuinely need help.

3. He’ll show us a need neglected by others.

4. He’ll show us a need that crosses our prejudices.

5. He’ll show us a need that moves our heart with compassion.

6. He’ll show us a need that’ll require us to personally serve others.

7. He’ll show us a need that requires us to give money.

8. He’ll show us a need no one may care about except God.

Conclusion/Reflection:
If we follow the call to be a royal priesthood we will be able to answer the question at the end of our life: Did my life count?
OPTIONAL:
BRINLEY HILLARD - Armor of God
Ephesians 6:10–18 ESV
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
God’s Timing for Your Life Be Ready When the Divine Shift Comes

We must guard against lethargy, complacency and unbelief.
