A Holy Exit

Genesis 12:1–4 NKJV
Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
Hebrews 11:8–10 NKJV
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Abraham the “Hebrew”

Abram was first to be called a “Hebrew” (Genesis 14:13). The Hebrew word is ibri (Strong’s H5680). The plural is ibrim. The word means “one from beyond” or “one who has crossed over”. Abram was one who had left one place to cross over to another place. he was regarded as a foreigner and stranger in the land to which he crossed.

Marriage Covenant: Leaving and Cleaving

All of the blessings inside the covenant rest on the condition to come out of everything else to be married to the One who makes covenant. This is pictured in marriage:
Genesis 2:24 NKJV
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

The Book of Exodus

The Book of Exodus records the exit of Israel from Egypt to the Promise Land. It is a book of leaving.
Israel had to “come out” to “go in”.
To come into the Promise Land, Israel had to cross two bodies of water.
Red Sea: They had to cross the Red Sea to come out of Egypt.
Jordan River: They had to cross the Jordan to enter the Promise Land.
Israel could not come into the Promise Land until they had first come out of Egypt.
Exiting Egypt is as holy as entering the Promise Land.
We cannot begin a new life without ending the old life.
We must come out of the land in which we are familiar so that God can show us a land that we’ve never seen.

Exiting from the Heart

After Israel came out of Egypt, God led them into the wilderness to get Egypt to come out of them. This is the process of sanctification.
Deuteronomy 8:1–6 NKJV
“Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers. And you shall remember that the Lord your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord. Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. “Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him.

Exiting Cultural Corruption

Acts 2:40 NKJV
And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.”
2 Corinthians 6:17–18 NKJV
Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.” “I will be a Father to you, and you shall be My sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Escape from Wrath

To “come out” is an urgent call. It is not only a call to inherit blessing, but also a call to escape destruction.
Matthew 3:7 NKJV
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, “Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Leaving all to Follow Christ

Jesus called His disciples to leave their old life to follow Him.
Matthew 16:24 NKJV
Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Luke 9:57–62 NKJV
Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.” Then He said to another, “Follow Me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and preach the kingdom of God.” And another also said, “Lord, I will follow You, but let me first go and bid them farewell who are at my house.” But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
