10:02 Prayer

Psalm 96 (ESV)
1 Oh sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! 4 For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens. 6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary. 7 Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength! 8 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! 9 Worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth! 10 Say among the nations, “The Lord reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.” 11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; 12 let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy 13 before the Lord, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.

New relationship with others.
New life in Christ
New Creation
New Mission
New Family

New Creation (2 Cor. 5:17)

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

We are In Christ

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
At a minimum, to be in Christ means to belong to him through faith, and to belong to him means living in the sphere of his power, being united with him through the Spirit, and to have become a part of the Christian community by baptism.” (Kruse, Colin G. 2 Corinthians: An Introduction and Commentary. Ed. Eckhard J. Schnabel. Second edition. Vol. 8. Nottingham, England: Inter-Varsity Press, 2015. Print. Tyndale New Testament Commentaries.)
“in Christ” Refers to being in union with Christ through the Holy Spirit; those who believe in Christ participate in His death and resurrection. (Barry, John D. et al. Faithlife Study Bible. Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2012, 2016. Print.)
When we are united with Christ, we are made new in Him.

We are a New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
new creationBelievers are transformed in Christ as part of God’s renewal of all creation (Rom 8:19–20; compare Isa 65:17–25). As a new creation, believers grow into the likeness of Christ (2 Cor 3:18; 4:4; compare Col 3:10). (Barry, John D. et al. Faithlife Study Bible. Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2012, 2016. Print.)
Romans 8:18–25 (ESV)
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 19 For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
God has made us new creation in Christ as He will make his Creation New. We experience in part what we and all creation will experience in full at the resurrection.
OT Promise
We will be made New
Ezekiel 36:25–29 (ESV)
25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26 And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. 28 You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 And I will deliver you from all your uncleannesses. And I will summon the grain and make it abundant and lay no famine upon you.
God promised to make us new. Paul is saying that God is accomplishing this through Jesus Christ. The new creation is not humanity only, but new heaven, earth and Jerusalem.
Isaiah 65:17–19 (ESV)
17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. 18 But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. 19 I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress.

Old is gone, New has come

2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV)
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
God makes us new.
Colossians 2:8–15 (ESV)
8 See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. 11 In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, 14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. 15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.
We live out that change.
Ephesians 4:21–24 (ESV)
21 assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, 22 to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
Put off/Put on
Put off - to cease doing what one is accustomed to doing—‘to stop, to cease. (Louw, Johannes P., and Eugene Albert Nida. Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament: based on semantic domains 1996: 657. Print.)
Former manner of Life
Put on - to put on clothes, without implying any particular article of clothing—‘to clothe, to dress, to put on.’ (Louw, Johannes P., and Eugene Albert Nida. Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament: based on semantic domains 1996: 524. Print.)
Renew the spirit of your mind
Righteousness and Holiness - the act of doing what God requires—‘righteousness, doing what God requires, doing what is right.’ (Louw, Johannes P., and Eugene Albert Nida. Greek-English lexicon of the New Testament: based on semantic domains 1996: 743. Print.)
We desire to live out that transformation through our daily choices. We are new creations in Christ and need to understand and live in the reality of that. We make choices daily that are in line with our new nature. We live out the character of Christ.

New Purpose (2 Cor. 5:14-15)

2 Corinthians 5:14–15 (ESV)
14 For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
Live for Christ not for Self.
Us/We - Paul and those with him writing this letter to the church in Corinth.
We are united with Christ and are living for Him. Paul emphasis the desire of our lives to live out lives that honor Jesus.
Romans 14:6–9 (ESV)
6 The one who observes the day, observes it in honor of the Lord. The one who eats, eats in honor of the Lord, since he gives thanks to God, while the one who abstains, abstains in honor of the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives to himself, and none of us dies to himself. 8 For if we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord’s. 9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.
Because we are new in Christ we have a new purpose in our lives. As we live our daily lives we are seeking to make choices that will honor God. (Living righteously and seeking to reach the lost.)
Seek to live out the character and priority of Christ.
Godly living
doing the Will of the Father.

New Perspective (2 Cor 5:16)

2 Corinthians 5:16 (ESV)
16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we once regarded Christ according to the flesh, we regard him thus no longer.
From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view. From the time Paul realized the significance of the death of Christ...the love of Christ for him expressed therein had been the motivating power of his life, and not only so, but had also changed his whole outlook. He could no longer regard others from a human point of view. Things which once had been regarded as important were now seen to have no real value at all (cf. Phil. 3:4–8). He can no longer pride himself ‘on a man’s position’, only his standing before God, which is a gift of grace (cf. v. 12). He confesses that he once regarded Christ from a human point of view. In his pre-conversion days he judged Christ using human criteria and came to the wrong conclusion, but after God had been pleased to reveal his Son to him, he had to say we regard him thus no longer, i.e. no longer from a mistaken human point of view. What Paul is saying is that previously he had a completely inadequate knowledge of Christ—one based on a human point of view—but now his understanding of Christ is no longer limited in that way. (Kruse, Colin G. 2 Corinthians: An Introduction and Commentary. Vol. 8. Downers Grove, IL: InterVarsity Press, 1987. Print. Tyndale New Testament Commentaries.)
We have a new perspective on life as well.
We see the world from a biblical perspective. (worldly priorities, people, values, etc)
We see our lives from a biblical perspective. (Importance of money, job, stuff or eternal perspective)

Summary

We are new creations in Christ and seek to live our lives in accord with our new reality with Christ.
We are to make choices in our daily life that line up with our new purpose in Christ with the priorities of Christ.
We are to live with a new perspective of life based on the Scriptures and the understanding and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Benediction

Romans 15:13 (ESV)
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
